Weapon errors

Postby Valrus on Fri May 11, 2007 2:02 am

I'm having a ocuple problems with a custom weapon I'm building. For now I'm just using the half-life pistol models for the gun. I've got just some basic code in the file, using the pistol file as a model but not copying it directly.

1) The model shows up in Hammer when I place it on the ground as an entity. But when I load the map it doesn't appear. aLthough I appear top pick it up when I run over the spot I placed it at.

2) When I try to pick up my invisible gun I get the error "Error reading weapon data file for: basehlcombatweapon" not really sure what that means.

Can anyone help me out?

Oh and a bonus question, what exactly is the Aact table for? It appears to set up animations, but is it only for NPCs?

Maybe you could post some of your code? In particular, the weapon's script file, your FGD entry for it, and maybe even the declaration macros from the C++ (like DATADESC, your base class declaration, LINK_ENTITY_TO_CLASS, etc.).

As for acttables, it's my understanding that they allow you to override any basic activities with one that is customized for your weapon (so no, it's not just for NPCs). For example, if you have an exotic weapon with a bizarre reload animation, you would want to have an entry in the table whereby you override the standard reload anim with your custom one.

Someone else might know more about this than me though.
