Gary, you cannot chain models.

A shared model is in a different format to a normal MDL, and cannot be chained to another shared model. You would have to decompile male_shared.mdl and add your animations to that unfortunately.

I see. Well, maybe one day I'll be able to properly decompile and recompile a shared model without hundreds of errors.

I started learning Java from the javanotes link in the OP, in order to make a simple android app that I had already made using html and jquery. Then I found phonegap. Then I made RosterCalc. It's an app that calculates mining roster pay rates. At the mines we tend to have pretty bizarre rosters, so rostercalc calculates it all as an aid for people looking at mining pay rates. I think I need to be a bit more clear on just how much the app shouldn't be taken literally though.

Also, the app seems to be really slow on my galaxy 2 so I'm thinking of changing it to java when I finally learn enough java to validate trying. At the moment I am just getting into object oriented programming. Holeeeeee shyeeet.

Want to pimp my C++ Source engine mod Source Media Arcade. It's got a bunch of external libraries plugged in to do all sorts of things such as:
- load a plethora of image formats as textures using DevIL
- decode AVI/MPEG files and display them on the wall as standard procedural textures using FFMPEG
- parses webpages using TinyXML to data mine from them
- parses and uses a dynamically generated HTML menu system complete with all-new tags created specifically for the mod
- allows you to use the full Windows Open File dialogue to choose files
- uses regular expressions to identify the names of your movies and TV shows of a variety of naming conventions
- interacts through official API's of various online databases to find box art for your games (TheMovieDb.org, TheTVDb.com, etc.)
- uses libcurl to download high-res boxart images in the background while you play
- has an automatic add-on installation feature which analyzes the internal folder & file structure of ZIPs from any Source engine game add-on and copies the content into the correct folders for use with the mod (using ZLIB)
- has a built-in Downloadable Content system with about 20 official DLC items you can try
- builds and maintains a media library using Valve's KeyValues file format
- launches your media files using their default Windows associated programs
- also can launch your files using command-line switch controlled helper programs, such as emulators

The most important thing that it does is it actually accomplishes what it was created for: launching your stuff. If you want to try it out, http://www.smarcade.net

Why not going the other way arround and compile your playermodel using the male_shared.mdl and add your own animations by including another custom_animations.mdl?

The point was to add animations to all of the models without recompiling them. Not that it matters, as I now doubt the dynamic_interactions block would even be inherited via $includemodel.

Very nice to do from scratch. But taking a look at your skill set... I want to slap you and tell you to keep working on your 3d art. Don't need a jack of all trades if you have a master of each.

whattttt no way. Programming and 3D shits compliment eachother really well. If he was taking up interpretive dance or something then you'd have reason to protest.

Lol, I see your point. But Stromy already makes art better than you'd expect a professional programmer to be able to... if somebody is 7 feet tall, you put them at Center. You don't encourage them to practice being a Point Guard. :D

I'm not trying to bring down your code Stormy, it was a very cool sample.

Thanks for the compliments man. I'm learning to code because I want to be able to make anything I want whenever I want. Found it hard to commit myself to a team these days because they kept failing so I went solo, which has had the unfortunate side effect of having to pass up fulltiming on good teams so I can finish my own projects first. If I can't finish my own things how will I ever make it on a team?

On a side note, my programming has progressed quite dramatically and I might be staring down the barrel of a software development deal for a large company. But I'll spruik all about it if and when it happens.

Also check out my android apps (which will be totally irrelevant to anyone who isn't a miner working in Australia). Made with phonegap but I am converting them to native apps (hence java).

And finally look at my fiddes directory where I test out crap that I think of.

Custom tools dll. Right now I'm just screwing around with it, but everything for the tools system seems to work so far...

Are you for reals making a vmf editor, or just playing around with the file system loading?

The realness depends on if I run into any major missing function that is required to do something along my journey :3

Or if I just get bored and never finish it.

God knows how much Source needs an in-game level editor.

I'll make my repository public once I finish a bit more of my basic structure if anyone is interested in the source code. It's pretty basic stuff at the moment, but it just took a lot of trial and error to figure out.
