Game doesn't compile

Postby Swordz on Sat Apr 07, 2012 6:17 pm

I recently created a HL2 mod, but the game doesn't work.
Literally everything i did was change gordon's movement speed, but when i enter debug mode, the game doesn't load and i get the error Unhandled exception at 0x00239e66 in hl2.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0xcccccccc. (each time is a different number). The stack thing shows "tier0:(the number that changes every time)".

How should i proceed? I did everything that was possible to avoid compile errors. I haven't changed anything besides the move speed, have added that "/FORCE:something" but i can't get the game to work.

Well, apparently, it crashes if i open it though VC2010. But when i open though steam it works fine. However, though the debug i can see that it tries to open using the EP2 stuff (it shows the EP2 background), but though steam it uses the HL2 background (although i think it's using the ep2 engine anyway). What's this?

Also, just a small question: I want to make the viewmodel centered on the screen instead of being on the right. I'm not asking you to write a code for me to do this, but i'm asking where should i go to do this? Into the weapon file or is there a "main file" that controls all viewmodels?

It's best to use VC2005, as that was what was used for it. However 2008 also works, but I'm not sure on 2010 - probably though.

See these to get it working under the version you want. You'll notice you do have to do some tweaks. Also, when you want to run the game you mustn't build it in debug mode.

Well, it works though steam so it doesn't really bother me to run though VS. But what about the viewmodel thing?

(VS2005 doesn't even work on my computer. if gives me that "side to side is incorrect" error.)
