NAT Punch-through for listening servers

My mod is based around listening servers, not dedicated servers. I know certain games like Left4Dead 2 allow you to host listening servers without having to manually open the server port (27015). I assume this is done with some sort of NAT punch-through.

Does anybody know how to add this to a Source engine mod? I have Steamworks access.
