Killswitch - Audio artist (updated 10/1/2010)

Postby Killswitch on Thu Dec 31, 2009 1:57 pm

Nametag: Killswitch
Location: Finland
Age: 17

I've been modding for a long time in many forms. Mainly I focus on designing and composing music and sound effects for small indie movies/videos, mods and just for my own pleasure. I also master video editing in professional quality softwares such as Pinnacle and Sony vegas and I use image editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop fluently. Writing scripts, stories and synopses for movies and games is something I like to do aswell. I am rather skillful with a pen and a paper, which is why I like to draw concept art as my hobby.

As an audio artist I am very flexible and can produce a variety of music from oppressive combat music to calm ambient music & everything in between.

Previous work examples:

Casualties of war

Interstellar confrontation

Haven cluster

Surrounded by hostiles

Argon occurrence

On the edge of universe

Mu Cephei Nebulae

Dry Ice

I also composed a song named World torn apart for Ubernoobs mod Wasteland: Aftermath. To hear the song you have to play the mod!

Very interesting, I'm on the lookout for musical talent right now, and you've got some good skill. It's also excellent to see a portfolio based on the lesser used aspects of modding, in this case sound.

Keep it updated.

Thanks. I'm always looking for new projects so give me a pm if you need me.

It is weird how few are actually claiming to be artists for audio content on this discussion board. Many don't even realise the importance of music in the whole gaming industry.

I use Adobe Audition for editing the music. It has proven to be the most professional but still fairly easy to use.

Nice indeed. But killswitch makes me think of the band Killswitch Engage too much...

i am curious, how do you get the sounds you use in your recordings? do you record them off of instruments that you play in you audio studio? do you have musicians come in and help play them? how much of you music is computer generated? what programs do you use for sound creation as opposed to sound editing? what education have you received in your life, self taught? Your music is impressive for the age that you created them.

Some of my sounds I get from other musicians, but a lot is computer created too. I'm no one man orchestra but I can get pretty close. Easily the best program available is MAGIX Music Maker. The core idea is simple but you do have to put a lot of effort for producing something that sounds nice. Music maker comes with a lot of presets, but I don't like to use them because then it really wouldn't be my music. It would be someone elses. I mostly use music maker only to put the sound pieces together, but the softwares synth systems are really useful. There is a lot of good programs out there. Some more professional than others.

I have no education in anything related to producing audio content. I've gotten pretty far with a creative mind and a lot of effort.

Well music maker is a lot easier to use but lacks some things that renoise has. They are best used combined.

I don't know what the drum-sound in "casualties of war" is called, but it's giving me a Mass Effect or Modern Warfare-feeling. Which I think is very awesome and feels very professional to me. Interstellar confrontation is also interesting, but seems to me like it doesn't really go anywhere near the end (but that might not be necessary for the purpose you've made it?). Regardless, I'm impressed.

Pahaha, I remember Music Maker...those were the days. True, it's very simple, but seriously, not really the program to use for professional audio/music production if you are properly serious about this field.

But nice stuff anyhoo. You got much more out of that program than I ever did :P
