Moddersunite Layout

Postby XenLand on Fri May 30, 2008 9:21 pm

I want to know what you guys think of my moddersunite page, its supposed to be simple like newegg.com, and tigerdirect.com but im not sure if its appealing or not.

I don't like it. The yellow doesn't suit it at all. Maybe another colour more similar to the other colours would be better.

Don't change the angle of the slants! on the yellow bar they change direction which looks nasty... Otherwise you have some rounded edges some not rounded... Make your mind up...

Make the font bolder,I'm not sure why but the middle of that orange line makes it hard to read :S

Yeah, certainly make the navigation more prominent and consider using semantic HTML, so putting the navigation in a <ul> list for example.

Also I would highly recommend using a DOCTYPE so that browsers don't render in Quirks mode.

and i've always noticed that people use <ul> but never understood why but i just know that everysite dose it, i'll check up on it.

I really don't think that site design is going to do you justice, it's very old styled and lookd like it was made in Frontpage, plus it uses Times new Roman?

I'm not being harsh for the sake of it here, I'm just telling you because a bad site design will put people off, especially when parting with money.

I suggest you have a look through this article on Web 2.0 styles, I don't agree completely with the "Web 2.0" slogan being chucked about but those sites are very pleasing to the eye and welcoming.

well, if you look at sites, that work very well, that my site is focoused at, such as myspace.com, newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, xoxide.com they are all very simple. so i kinda wanted that simple look, im not the best webdesigner and i think this is the best im going to come up with. Sites are mostly content anyways, altho i do agree that, the look of the website, can do some damage to the users that comeback to the site, also believe that with good content and functionality, and connecting with other people makes up 80% of what users browse the for anyways.

What font do you suggest i use?

Comic Sans...? I haven't seen a website or design to use that font in over 5 years man.
Helvetica or preferably Arial are very timeless fonts that look great and modern.
