Looking into join website development

Postby arieas on Mon Oct 13, 2008 6:20 pm

Recently, I have been trying all sorts of sites on xammp, classified, local information, design site, web RPG etc.

I have had some ideas for sites, but some of which I could not operate on my own really.
This is where I now come to offer, or to seek out, assistance and a form of partnership for developing a websites.
By putting together ideas and skills, with other people or a person, maybe a new site could be developed that would be of something new, not like many other sites out there.
Of course, not looking to create the next google, myspace or facebook, or use it to make millions. Just a useful, interesting, unique site, that can be part of a portfolio and previous work. Maybe, earn an extra few £ from it a month if possible, but not full intention, that would be nice.

I have good skills in 2d design, and have used mysql databases a lot and all sorts of control panels and web apps. I do not code exactly, but can look through code to make edits, like CSS or php etc. But could never really code anything from scratch.
Any websites though could use premade scripts and such if there any available, to save time of course.

Now, if not interested in the above. Maybe someone could give some ideas on sites that may be useful now or later in the future, not million dollar makers, but sites capable of a following from many people.
I have always wanted to make a site that is useful to many and has some interesting content. I have always lacked establishment anything that is really new though, except a blog, but that's boring and only receives a few hits a week.
I would make a site on things that interest me, however, that's more of a public blog, and there's not too much I can write about that has not been written before with more authority on the internet.

Sounds fun. I'm interested but I don't have the time in the next month. After that we'll see :)

I'm vaguely interested (and have quite a bit of experience in this field), but probably too busy to do anything in this regard.

Are you saying you're a graphic designer looking for a coder, or what?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from your post I'm reading that you need people to help build a site that you haven't even thought of yet, let alone planned?

Well, not really, Its favourable. Its just someone else who has ideas, or something. The coding is something more to worry about later after a plan of a site is put together. I would do graphics before hand, then shoved with code, if needed, hire a coder or someone, I know a few people, who may be able to do it anyway, depending on complexity.

Well yes, but no. Its more a joint operation. Putting ideas together, coming up with a site in a team. Two or more minds to work with creating a site. So ideas we have, put them together, debate, plan, create. It would be from the bottom up for both.

Hmm, should also note, pm me about anything and interest.
Also I do not intend to do anything soon, the aim is to prototype a site sometime early next year, this is the idea and brainstormign stage, unfortunately I cannot do anything with any people I know off the internet, often a bit warped by the whole social networks and such, which is not something the net needs more of.
I am interested in more than just useful 'tool' sites. I have been designing a site which I may put short stories on, its not really something I'm into but is something I can do to pass the time as a hobby I realise.

Hello there matey!

I kind of understand what you are talking about. Been feeling the same need to develop something that just stands out. Yes i am interested! Though i would have some problem with taking time for this project. Doing my last year in school, and working my butt off for a webdevelopment company. But if this is something that should take long, i could possible contribute quite a bit! :)

Well, time for anyone, I don't think could really be an issue for this, since I am not looking to such anything or develop it till the summer, or sufficient funds if needed.

I can be added on msn, just don't contact me about viagra, I don't really need any. :o

Got a few ideas now, but they are taken from my point of view, one I think is a bit late to start up on the internet now, unless it really offered something many site don't tend too. Tried looking for similar, seems to be fresh idea, but it is really just bringing it out of sites and dedicating an entire site to it. Think it may get a few frowns too.

Another idea is a plain English (or other translation) tutorial site for digital stuff, like game engines, modelling, 2d design, with free tools and not free tools. With some of the most basic stuff which is often overlooked, plus advanced stuff, competitons for all levels and large community build events to make a game or 3d movie etc every year.
Plus stuff to help people to people break into the industry. It would likely consist of a wiki and CMS, wiki for tutorials and guides, CMS for discussions, questions and portfolio stuff. Wikis would generally be easier to use. Pretty simple pie really, as long as the CMS and wiki can be connected, most work well.
Hmm, bit carried away, but the general plot of one idea, although likely to be very exhausted with many of the dedicated tutorial sites. Suppose it covers more indy game creation and collaboration.
