Possible Redesign

Postby NightWolf on Tue Oct 21, 2008 4:49 pm

I am thinking about possibly (once again) redoing the design of my site. I have the new design laid out in Photoshop just not in Dreamweaver yet.

I have two images, one of my current site and one of the new design. Please vote for which one you like better, whichever one wins is the one I'm putting up.

Current Site:

New Site:

Thanks :smt004

The black design looks very minimalist. Looks more like a movie production site, though very nice.

I liked the old one...

I also noticed that you had a iwannamap link in your menu ... but then..... you don't have it in your new design...... LAME!

the light one just looks plain friendly, and nice. Needs a bit of a spruce but it's ok.

The dark one is nice, sharp and basic, but just too simple. I dont want to read it (cant read the language anyway) cos it's just too boring looking. Spice up the design with paragraphs, pictures, all sorts of shit, and we're getting somewhere

I think they both look ok but not fantastic to be honest. They're a bit.. rough.. or simplistic.. hard to put a finger on it.
I think generally speaking light is better, but I voted the dark option, because I think it will convey the content better because of less cluttering in the design.
btw: "best viewed at <resolution> with <browser of choice>"... really, don't go there. I just want a site to work or else I'm not visiting anymore.
It's a difficult choice. I turned my own site into a dark one, but that also lacks juice, still working on it though - but it's just a hobby site.

Thanks for the comments and criticism everyone, if the current one stays there will be a few aspects I will be tweaking. Voting ends November 4th.

I dont want to read it (cant read the language anyway)

The language is Latin. In typography, "Lorem Ipsum" is often used as filler text to demonstrate blocks of text. So, you're not supposed to be able to read it. :P

Anyway, I like simple, but the second design is too simple for me. So, I say use the original, with some suggestions:

1. Use the logo from the second design (including the font), but keep the header background of the original
2. Lower the font size of the menu buttons and box headers
3. Play with the anti-aliasing settings for the text in your images to get rid of the distorted edges (set it to Crisp, for example)

FYI: The technique used is an often used method called 'greeking' and basically means putting up random text, making it look like words and paragraphs as if it were actual content. There are many 'greeking machines' out there. Here's a nice one that can do some others than the usual Latin.
