VBulletin Forum Design

I am trying to get my forums looking somewhat decent for my mod. Earlier today it was just the basic vbulletin style which hurts my eyes, but after I let a guy have a go at it, it still hurts my eyes. I would like some suggestions on where to go with it. I like a darker grungy look, but I dont want it to be difficult to read. I think a nice blue to offset things would go well, but at the moment im not really sure where to go with it.

It seems fit, but the pictures are obviously taken from another theme judging by the jagged borders..
Maybe those need to be desaturated as well..

They are from the original theme that comes with Vbulletin. I am working on replacing them at the moment.
