Domain Names

Postby Surfa on Thu Oct 22, 2009 7:33 pm

I just wondering what you guys want to see in a portfolio domain name.
Do you prefer something silly such as:
http://www.poopinmymouth.com
and
2girls1surfa.com
or do you prefer something to do with the persons name such as:
http://www.philipk.net/
or creative names or maybe don't you really care.

It's meant to be professional. A combination of you name and surname will be fine.

Those two silly ones are just wrong, but no you don't need to use just your name.

If you can come up with a name thats easy to remember and summarizes what you do/are good at, especially if it's a creative subject like art... It's a big plus.

Silly is possible, but only if it applies directly to your skills, say a webdesigner could have pixelpusher.com as domainname.

If all fails, go for your real name based domain.

I might have forgot to mention that it isn't for any professional endeavor, I am mainly creating a site to record all of the work I have done.

  1. If someone might find it offensive, pick another.
  2. If someone hears you say it, it ought to be clear how to spell it.
  3. If it's not clear how to spell it, it should obviously be a made-up word or phrase, so people don't confuse it with something that already exists.
  4. It does not have to be your name, but it might not hurt either.

One idea:
