Design improvements, and oh hai!

Ohai people! First post on this forum, wish me luck.

Lately i've been working on improving my company's current website. I'd like some feedback on what you like/don't like, and what could be improved even more. All i have done right now is only a layout, a single picture.

Current one: http://www.datasnillen.com
Concept one: http://www.datasnillen.com/conceptOne/

Any feedback would be utterly awesome! :)

Edit: I don't like the colors in my logo, the blue ones. What'd you think?

liking it overall. Perhaps tone down the background image a bit ?

Yes, i could do that. I can see that it's taking the attention away to much from other content.

Edit: It's been dimmed down a bit, also added some minor tweeks here and there. Still don't like to blue text color in the logo :(

+ More contrast than the previous version
+ Not so much inner glow
+ Not that many 'in-your-face- strokes around everything
+ Better menu layout. One place to navigate is more than enough when you don't have a lot of content

= I suggest having uniform menu titles. Or go with the usual Home/Work/Contact/About Us or do everything in the other style: Where to start/What we've done/Who we are/How to reach us
= I don't know how much content you will have but if there's not that many I'd merge About Us and Contact

- "Logo" on the first page was better (no stroke and bolder text)
- I would lose or decrease the blur around your menu. It makes your menu look like a part of the background image and doesn't really look interactive
- I would make the text in the buttons a bit smaller and make the bodytext a bit larger.
- What's the deal with the images. Why is only one active. They look like thumbs but there isn't a proper size image.
- I'd split the body into two columns or make the whole site a bit less wide. One line has too many words with this font size.
- Why the background and borders around the titles on the right? It looks clunky.
- More vertical whitespace would do wonders for scanning your site. Also make more use of color and size (already did that on certain places) to differentiate in importance.
- I'd make the date stamp to left align with the text.

Thanks for that awesome input, and that well done example : )

I'll probally keep the menu as it is, since my supervisor said he loved it :p
But i'll certainly look into the other stuff you mentioned, thanks again!

* The deal with the images? Ah! Just to show both the active/non-active state :p

Personally I'm a fan of minimalism, and love your current site. The new one looks nice, but the logo at the top keeps distracting me :P (and I can't think of anything to link the hard spotlights to your servers hehe). I don't think you need a background image for your header, unless of course your company also specializes in concrete and lighting ;)

@Magoc, I really like that design. It's simple, clean, and looks like it would function pretty good
