CTF_EXPORT: First Original CTF Map For HL2DM

Postby MagicTMP on Wed Jan 12, 2005 2:57 am

YOU MUST PUT YOUR SERVER IN TEAMPLAY OR ELSE THE TRIGGERS WILL NOT WORK!

It is here. after 2 months of development and one final week of perfecting and tweaking, it is here. the scenario is a culmination of UT's bombing run and capture the flag. the map consists of two sides with 3 connecting hallways. it is great fun.

THE OBJECTIVE is to bring the colored combine balls (red for rebels, blue for combine) from your enemies flag room to your flag room by shooting, passing, and killing. touching your own flag will result in death.

the score is recorded in a scoreboard attached to the HUD. it is with you at all times. do not look for a giant scoreboard in the map because there is none. first to 10 wins. when a team wins, a message appears showing which team won, explosions, and the game is started again.

Special thanks to:
Raeven0 - Tweaking and making the ctf scenario leeter than anyone else, Object - host for the map, Flashdevil, hamst3r, fi3nd, [TK]Archwolf, Morph-Ninja, Blender, and many of the other beta testers who all gave input to this map.

(NOTE: the blue/red screen in the doorway/window of each flag room PULSES and fades in and out from opaque to nothing. IT IS NOT PERMANENT in the last screenshot.)

**NOTE**
There is a FINAL coming out soon. ATM the above version is what servers are playing, but a FINAL is coming out after we took a week of criticism from servers playing the map. IT WILL BE OUT SOON!

I spotted this map a while a go. Very good i ever added it to my list of great maps. Although i think the red room is pretty ugly the rest of the map is excellent. Glad to have CTF style game now.

you should read the whole post (even though inside it gets kind of annoying, but its for the best). the red/blue translucent film in the doorway/window of each room pulse from nothign to opaque and everything in between. they are just the markers for the team flag rooms.

just to let you guys know (for those who dont read the posts :)), im going to release a final with all bugs fixed that i can fix.

ok i just tested it by myself and:
pros: the structures above the roof (the power lines and chimneys and shit)
------ high framerate throughout the map
------ imaginative brushwork
------ good use and alignment of textures
------ visual effexts (glows, light beams, etc)
------ water bounces the ball away :P

cons: smallish
------ physics_respawnable problem (see http://forum.interlopers.net/viewtopic.php?t=1284)
------ bases are too out-in-the-open and small, and too hard to attack
------ pretty dark

but yea definitely a great achievement. im curious as to how you set up the teamspecific spawns, the scoreboard, the balls that kill you when you touch them, basically all of it except the props and geometry :P

i hope it gets popular
