A Bad Dream - HL2EP2 Map - Built in 3 days

Postby DrAddicted on Tue Apr 02, 2013 3:39 pm

I built a map in about 3 days for the steamcommunity.
It startet with a post about a soundtrack in Half-Life 2. It's called "Radio".

I thought that I have to make a map with that soundtrack in it so I decided to start mapping.
And that's the result. You may have fun or not. I really don't know. The map takes about 2-5 minutes.

I still have some problems with 3D skyboxing. So I simply made a tall mountain area around the windows.
That's something I still have to learn.

I added some screenshots, still not too much because it kind of spoilers the map.

Thank's!

Would you mind to tell me what you liked or disliked about this map?
If you have some time, some criticism?
It's my first released map (all the other ones were there to learn mapping or are still in progress)
and I'd like to know if you do like the style of the map it self or if the NPC was behaving strange or something.
(AI was the last Thing I learned, yet.)

I 'd like to recommend the "betatesters collective" http://www.planetphillip.com/btc/
They 'll provide very usefull feedback.

I 'll post my own opinion when I 've played it.

EDIT:
Well that was rather short ...
The slamming doors caught me by suprise, I found that was a nice touch.

There are a few things that bothered me;
1) the invisible wall in the window, either move up the window so the player can't reach it or allow acces to the outside but block the wall, you can use info_node_hints to allow the hunter to jump
2) the weird death by the hunter, he just falls through the floor? without the player doing anything to cause it.
3) water at the bottom of a pit usually means that the player can jump into it without dying (general rule in hl2 mapping)
4) the short duration of the map

Thank you marnamai!

I can confirm your points by my self.

1) I should add a fencedoor to block the Player off from the more outer side of the map and get rid of the playerclip.
2) The death of the hunter is strange... I am thinking about something different like pushing a heavy metaltruss down to the head of the hunter
3) The hole should look more dangerous (also the hunter doesn't really fall into it)
4) I hope you mean that you want to see more of the map! :D I know that it is really short. I created it in about 3 days.

In fact I want to make it bigger and with some more stuff going on but I don't know what should happen next yet.
It maybe would be a good idea if you can jump in to the hole to get to the tunnel which you can see in the start of the map!

I was made in less than 3 days. Actually Dad leads me to believe it was less than three minutes.

I'm fantastic...

The first time I played I dropped the gnome on his head and it hit the hunter right as the floor broke so that's what I thought you were supposed to do

Haha! No, it was scripted simply bad there. :D

I fixed it. You kill the hunter with droping something on it's head now indeed. I also added much much more stuff to the map. It's about 3 times bigger now.
But it will take some time for release everything because I decided to build a mod out of my maps, which are connected in some way to each other.
