It's not exactly "legal" to use these on source, or any other engine for that matter. Using ripped content from other games is frowned upon by a lot of people. I guess its alright for testing out stuff on a small project or using them as placeholders, but if you're trying to make a respected full release map I definitely wouldn't use any content ripped from games.

Just my take on it.

Yeah, probably best not to post these things anymore. Pretty much everyone here is capable of using google to find stuff like this if they really want it.

It's legal for non-commercial purposes. If I did game with this content and sell it, it would have been illegal.

Mind linking us to a source for that?

You can use content from GSC Gameworld because the company doesnt exist anymore. Even themselve said people can use it for non-commercial purposes.

I'm positive that GSC-World allowed all the Stalker content to be used freely for non-commercial purposes a few years back. Don't have a link to the source for that info but I'm confident it's true.

Now, as for the Metro 2033 assets you posted here earlier. That's an entirely different story. I'm not sure what 4A's stance is on reuse of their assets, especially now that Deep Silver bought the rights to the Metro series when THQ went bankrupt. THQ may have been just fine with it, but Deep Silver could have easily stepped in and said no.

Anyway, generally speaking, the Gmod community is the place you want to be posting this stuff at. That's where practically 99% of all ported content comes from.

Yeah it was all released on fps banana by GSC years ago, when stalker was still relevant. I'm pretty sure there's a guy on here who's got a portfolio piece using it; but It's like Gary said, Anybody who wants It already has it.

Absolutely horrible site you hosted it on. It limits you to some absurd download speed 64 kb/s or lower. Right now it says it's going to take 19 hours to download.

Yeah... I have no problem with ports, even if the companies aren't in favour of it (Nintendo, Sony, Capcom etc) as long as its tasteful, credited, and free. Art is art.

Horrible hosting sites are still horrible though.

Perfectly legal, lazy as fuck.

I'm starting to see STALKER's textures as I see HL2 textures - just the same thing, yet again.
