hello there :D

i would like to enter the next challenge ... and been thinkin about topics -

how about something not too specific theme oriented
rather an object you could use for many maps
like a crate or a lamp -vegetation or furniture maybe ?!?

if the entries than would get contributed to the community
everybody could benefit from this -even though only one can win

if you keep this up for a few weeks you would get a stunning
object library in notime 8)

just thinkin xD

The problem with that ash, is that we'd have to texture the model as well for it to be usable ingame. These compos are just modeling, although anyone is free to texture it and uploaded to the Share Your Models thread.

I'm more inclined to use the gardening or the fire/heat ideas. Especially the gardening one.

Not that we can't still do fire/heat, of course! :smt005

A model battle where the winning model serves a template for the next map battle :)

i see - sorry i didnt knew about the terms :-D
i looked through the past challenges and there been some fine stuff
build by talented low poly modelern
just figured that it would be cool to actually get to use them

the idea was to get a sertent variety of the same kind objects
but i agree now ... lets keep it casual

one term question -dos normal mappin count as textureing ?

normal mapping does count as texturing, but who's going to spend time UV mapping a 2 hour speed model so they can START to make a normal map?

You'll have enough trouble getting out a good quality base mesh, like the rest of us :)

Well, I don't really see it as odd. a normal map is just like any other texture, be it a spec map, a diffuse map, a HSV map, or whatever. It takes an image (map) and projects it onto the model, where it effects how the lighting reacts the surface.

I think that only meshwork should count, so that would also exlude any kind of displacement map as well, as it doesn't really effect the mesh.

And It's not in the topic, but theses are usually speed modeling challenges, although nothing's cast in stone right now. Rawmeat 3000 has resurrected them from the dead and I'm sure that he, and the rest of the community would be cool with setting a polygon limit on some (or all?) of the challenges.

Definitely not all of the challenges. I'm thinking about half poly limits and half speed challenges. So after this next speed challenge finishes, we'll have a poly limit. Maybe we can blend the two and have a timed poly limit. Or a poly limited speed challenge. I guess I should probably make a rule thread too. Eventually.

Is everyone cool about the gardening theme, btw? Seems like overkill to have a vote on these things, but I want to make as many people happy as possible.

^ Sounds good to me. Gets my vote for next model challenge.
