Speed Challenge 12 - Fortification

Postby RawMeat3000 on Sun Mar 15, 2009 9:04 am

Welcome to Speed Challenge #2 - Fortification. In this challenge, should you choose to accept it, your goal will be to model something involved in fortifications. Artillery, sandbags, catapults, barbed wire, there are tons of interesting things to model in this one. Post renders, wireframes, poly count, and time spent modeling in this thread. Your target time is 2 hours.

Challenge ends on Tuesday morning GMT.

What better thing to do on a lazy Sunday than make an ass-kicking model?

Get to it Interlopers.

I decided to ditch using alot of reference and see what could come straight out of my head. I'm not too pleased with the results, the level of detail is uneven, although I could have evened it out. because I didn't know what I was modeling, I didn't know how long things were going to take. Also I got distracted by pretty ladies and food :(

time: 1:45
polycount:15,242

If you have any questions about how I did anything feel free to ask, this is supposed to be a learning exercise, and I learned a little about the polygon deformers.

source-maps, the cannon looks great, the opening of the barrel should be smaller though.

My long overdue entry,

Image

22,084 polygons and modeled in 2:17

It's pretty meh, but that's what I get for not having a plan before starting, and randomly beveling and subdividing.

Not sure if I should set up the poll now or wait a little longer for more entries...
