Speed Challenge 22 - 8-bit

Postby RawMeat3000 on Sat Aug 01, 2009 5:00 am

Now that textures and materials are allowed, I though I'd start out with something easier, but still fun. Hopefully it'll bring back some fond memories of 8-bit gaming. Create characters, environments, anything you want, be it original or from a game, as long as it's a representation of something 8-bit.

Regular rules apply complete your finals in 2 hours, and post renders, wireframes, triangle count and time spent in this thread. Textures and materials of course are allowed. Here are the full rules, but I haven't changed them yet because I don't know how well adding texturing to the mix is going to work out. Time will tell.

This challenge ends Tuesday night
, midnight Pacific Standard Time. For more time zones see this.

adding textures to models takes forever unless your just assigning different materials to objects, how is that useful with only 2 hours to work with..?

No it doesn't have to be from an 8-bit game, or any game. It just has to look representative of something 8-bit (I probably should have made that clear, instead I said it had to be an 8-bit image, which when I stop to think about it, is confusing). You don't have to texture anything if you don't want to, and if you did it wouldn't be very hard, since you'd most likely be using very simple geometry and simple textures. You can also use materials, which makes solid colors really easy to do.

I made this quickly to give you guys an idea of what I'm talking about. (not my entry, btw)

Can we move it to Tuesday?

I wasn't sure if I could model the controller, so didn't finish it :| I Was at the 40 minute mark when I realized that I could not fit in the theme.

Yep yep. I'll move the deadline to Tuesday night, around midnight, Pacific Standard. And I'll get to work on my entry later today, but it's 4 in the morn and I have to sleep.

Good luck fellas.

no offense but if everybody is going to enter with some 8 bit blocks you hardly need any modeling skills now do ya?
