De_Dozer (First CS REAL map)

Postby Stotic on Sun Feb 13, 2005 4:52 am

This is the first real map I'm working on. I've made two aim maps before this one. I only have one screenshot at the moment because the only part that looks good is the outside.

---I'm standing looking at the entrance to.......the temple.... You usually can't get over here. Behind me theres a little tomb thing.

****I didn't know what to name it. That was just a random word that popped into my head. Dozer. You can come up with another one if you so desire. I'm thinking of something like "surreal or crypt"

I still need to add barbed wire around the outside walls and spice it up a bit other places. That map is only about 15% complete sadly..

Very dark for a CS map. No one likes a shadow camper. I would think about your bsp stuff first then add models later. I personal feel that if you start using models you come more depended on them to make your level and your less inclined to move or remove them in your map to redo bsp work. I like to make sure my world is working and can stand alone without the models, then spice it up. 1-2 here or there though for alignment is not bad though, or if your basing your map on a single model, like a room theme then its ok.

I might suggest a little fog and lite rain, I think it will help the mood your going for.

Yeah I kinda got mad at myself. I couldn't stop putting props in. But yeah thanks for all that info.

It doesnt make any sense. You'll never see fences and floodlights like that next to a graveyard.

Why is realism a factor in a map? Last I checked, it's not your map, and maybe the spotlight even goes with whatever theme is going on. Maybe the CT's landed and set up a light there so that if any Terrorists came, they'd be able to see them better, as it's night time. Use your imagination, it's a game.

P.S. I can't really say anything about a map from one screenshot.

Those aren't bad graphics, use your imagination!

Games are emulating real life, in many cases. They strive for realism. HL2 is popular, partly, because of its realistic graphics and physics. If there was a girrafe and a hot air baloon in the level it would be FUBAR.

The guy was offering constructive criticism, so Stotic can improve his map, I'm sure that's why he posted.

Oh well, it's my first map really. Give me a break ;-) . I think it looks cool.

---And it's kind of not a natural arena. It's sort of on military lockdown I guess you could say

Take no notice m8 it looks fine to me. It'd be better if you gave us some more screens to really rip it appart lol. As for the military lockdown thing.......hmmmmmm. Even using my imagination i can't see gravestones and military mixing tbh.
