CS_Airport Scenario 1

Postby TheSmokster on Thu Mar 17, 2005 12:53 pm

Hi all,

Only started mapping about 3 weeks ago...

This is my first map...

Feedback/suggestions etc... wanted

Currently on revision D of map, still a bit more to do but the majority of it has been done, about 75% complete...

You can download Revision D of map http://homepage.ntlworld.com/steve.kelly//CS/cs_airport_sce_1d.zip

As i said, feedback, good or back more than welcome...

I've a few questions that i'm struggling to find help on...

I've embedded the custom textures used but what else do i need to embed/include to put on the server so client can download and play (without missing any relevant files for the map)

What does one do with the .nav file (hostage paths)?? shall i embed this using bspzip or is it just put on the server and automatically downloaded?

Someone told me about a .res file that tells the server what files the client needs to download??

Am also looking for a plane model/prop.. failing that, what would be the best way to model one in hammer?? set it as func_illusionary so it doesn't harm resources??

Still learning day by day (when i get chance)...

Great forum btw and the tutorials are second to none!!

Any help/feedback will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hey m8, welcome

For 3 weeks of editing that's a damn good effort, keep it up.

In regards to your Q's I only really know one, and that is that I wouldn't advise making a plane with brushes, a prop would be the most efficent way.

Looking pretty good, I must say, especially for 3 weeks of work. The one thing I don't like from the pictures is the horse statue. Do you need that? Personally, I don't think you do, and it looks really out of place to me. Course, that is just my personal opinion.

Use func_detail instead of func_illusionary, unless you want to be able to walkt through it. And a plane made from brushes would look bad.

Nice for 3 weeks work. You were smart by not making an fy or aim map.

Thanks for the comments guys/gals :D

Always good to hear positive feedback

Anyone know or recommend how i can get this aeroplane? (airplane if yaw a yank!!)

Its only going to be used for "effect" so doesn't need to be "solid" as such... (its actually going outside the main lounge) so you won't even be able to get near it... purley for asthetic reasons :D

I was thinking of kinda modelling one in hammer (to best ability - semi looks like a plane) but was gonna make it a func_dunno so it doesn't take resources

If anyone can help, or has got the phone number for Jimmy Fix It or the A-Team.... :-D

i'll knock yu up a model if you like., It'll be quick, not very realistic and quite badly textured, probably, but it'll do. Just gimme clues about scale, and visual stuff - IE how it will be lit, how much of it will be visible etc.

Definently place the plane model in a 3d skybox.

I hope you took notes from your post at halflife2.net, smokster.
