Just use a .. uh. lod_watercontrol or whatever the hell it's called, and set the cheaprendering distance quite low. It'll effect framerates a lot if you have loads of water.

i'm gonna try to delete some water.. and some other stuff.

@ Serever
I compiled vis on FAST
and i have no idea what +budgetstuff is.

If you have water in the 3d sky that makes even some peoples powerful machines lag (mine does and its a 1 year old alienware x.x i upgrade it too.... Thats because i have the best water so i can pwn some n00bs  )

If your water is only going to be something in the likes of scenery, I wouldn't worry about using a cheap shader.

You have to see it as a budget, and how you want to spend that budget. If your going to spend a lot of that budget into something that the player doesn't really care about. That's just a big chunk of FPS going into something where it shouldn't be.

yo don't need to add a lod_watercontrol because if you don't have one they add one on compile.

I tried to add a water_lod_control. and for some reason i didn't even seem to have water. only in dx70 mode. well i didn't see the water.
i also tryed to compile on "Normal" the vvis effect are better than i first thought! however. it took me 15 hours and even then hammer was nearly finished with the vvis compilation. so i closed vvis.exe, maybe thats the problem? i dunno.

the good thing about all this; is that if i use Cheapwater, with a normal compilation, i get MUCH better fps. the lowest fps i got was around 30. which is quite high for my computer. aslong as i don't go below 24 things should be okay, and i don't.
the only thing is, that the waters' so cheap. and that sucks. cuz i want my map to look good. so what should i do? make a low-fi version and a high-fi version? or should i only make a high quality version with expensive water, and add this to the readme: "warning! if you have a bad computer, please change your dxlevel to 70, this will seriously increase your fps."

what do you guys think?

Dude it reverts to DX 8 or 7 if your card only supports it.

Throw in a water lod control and set the distance shitclose. Then live with the rest. Do Not make a shitversion.
