Here's another map that I am working on. I am rebuilding the map cs_assault from cs 1.6, the lightning still suck but I am working on that.

I don't think anything can knock assault_lith off its perch
I'd recommand trying something else, or, if you go ahead with this, you have to do something really good and interesting

Try adding something of your own to rather than making it almost exactly the same, when Valve remade their maps, although the layout was pretty much the same they added extra details like rooms you cant get in and fenced off boiler rooms.

Not a bad attept though.

in your third pic, are those lights spotlights (from the spotlight tut on the site) or something else?

doesnt look much better from the original, apart from the textures and lighting

That was my objective, make the map exect the same as the original. Same hiding places, same spots where you can shoot through like in the vents. So there wont be any extra barrels cars laying around.

I think that cs_assault is an awsome map, I am always CT on that map, cause its fun to find a way through the camping T's :D

And yes those are spotlight, just use point_spotlight and your already dont, you just need to modify them a little.

It's not bad looking, but there are like 50 remakes of this map out there. This one will just get lost in the shuffle. If you going to do this and release, you really try harder to make it stand out.

fk this is terrible...the question that keeps coming to my mind when i see these maps is WHY remake such a terrible map? it was SO overstacked. if i were you i would scrap this and start a new map, one original but if u insist on making it, you need a new ground texture outside...

you should take advantage of SOURCE and peoples hardware now, that map you've made, no offense, could be made the exact same for HL1 with 0.25 sized textures.

i think the realism remake of cs_assault for CS1.5 (was released about 1.3-era if i remeber) with the hummvee and stuff is the best version of assault.

as the others said, its nice but its plain.
I've been mapping for 5 years and haven't completed a single thing.

Honestly I am sick of old stock maps being ported. It's a new game so I want NEW MAPS, and Valve will probably port the old ones eventually too.

I want to see some moderatly original stuff (stuff you think of and design yourself).

first off, there are many way better versions of assault for source, so don't really bother with this anymore.
you really like the gameplay, you really wanted to make assault. try this, use the exact same layout, put it in a completely new locaation and give it a new theme.
i don't mean move it from new york to tokyo i mean move it to somewhere like egypt, in the pyramids or cuba in a drug lords house, aztec, underwater marine station, powerplant, anything but some generic urban area.
