i don't even know if it's the "dirty" thing (or lack there of) but it does give off quite the TF2 feel, which is cartoony. I tried looking through the screenies here to find a specific example. like look at the building that's pale blue (cyan?). it's kind of warm and happy looking, not overly complex. personally i think it looks great, but it looks cartoony.

maybe more texture variation? like the brick police station. that one looks cartoony too. perhaps if all of the brick texture was broken up somehow? maybe the colors are just to soft and happy feeling?

Don't know about you others, but in my opinion, none of the buildings look cartoony. Or at least not too cartoony.

Yes, I agree. It's not quite cartoony, but its cleanliness makes it border on the stylized. And I likes it.

Cities don't just open. They are built up from towns so they'd be dirty anyway.

Well.. the screenshots look awesome, and I think I understand the cartoony problem... This happens specially when using a lot of custom content, and, in the case of texture, when there're more hand-made.. I don't know how are you creating your textures, but maybe you should try more photographic references ....

I myself I'm making a massive-custom-content map, but I create textures from photos... that helps..

Also, sometimes, some of us (I include myself) start mapping a clean version of the place and then we add the dirty feeling (overlays, decals... etc).. so, first versions of the map look extremely shiny and clean.... ^^

And about the textures: nothing prevents me from modifying them later on if I want to

That last shot reminds me of Vice City. I like the color scheme of the right hotel.
