CS_Omaha

Postby Bad)-(and on Fri Apr 29, 2005 5:23 pm

Hi, this is my first post here. I've been looking around the site and seeing some really great maps, so I thought i'd post some screenshots of mine and maybe you guys could tell what I can do to improve it. It's still a work in progress, so it's got a while before it's finished. [Please note that this is only my second map....EVER!!]

Sorry if the pictures are too big.

design/layout-wise....meh....it's gonna be a fine map for running at ppl and getting slaughtered/slaughtering others. But...c'mon, it's a pretty obvious concept, and the layout isn't exactly a masterstroke. While I can't really fault it, I just wish people did more inspired, inteesting maps. It's essentially no more than an aim_map with water and a historical name.

Technically...I hope all those 'traps' and barricades etc are all func_details...!

Repeating texture on the hills at the back, looks quite lame. Break it up a bit with blended textures, maybe a bit of foliage, perhaps some blast marks or craters or something?. Making it wider and adding a wide, fogged 3d Skybox will work wonders for the atmosphere. Looks too much like a CS 1.6 map with higher quality textures. EWxpand it visually, make the most of the engine - doesnt have to mean a more expansive gameplay

I don't wanna sound like i'm flaming, but I can't honestly say this is a good map, either in concept or execution. But it's certainly not completely terrible, and with some time, enthusiasm, innovation and dedication could become quite respectable.

Alright atleast get a decent concept to the map down.

That was one of the major objectives, to take out the 88's that were shelling the beach/ships.

and all I can hear with this map when it's released is the roar of the awp

no good. sorry. wait for DOD to be done before we try any maps like that. I guarantee if they make DOD like CS with the turtle rock studios designing all the maps this one wont survive.

But as for the design of this map, I dont think its worthy to be honest. The screenshots make it look so lame, I dont want to flame either so here is what I think would make this map better.

The water cuts off at the edge. This cannot be helped for obvious reasons but it can solved. Make it a foggy map and put a clip texture so they cannot go past a certain point and discover that the world is flat :D . Fog with make it seem like it keeps on going and it wont be such a slaughter.

Add some boats, add a lot more displacement maps so that it seems like a sandy beach, Add more mountains and trees.

Keep it up I would like to see this come along.

Hmm...

Honestly, I do not think that a Omaha map for CS:S would really be a good idea because for starters its already going to be done for DOD:S, another is that it would be hard to pull off an authentic feel (i.e.: good looking waves, bodies all over, excessive amounts of gore...), it would really be hard to even the teams out on this map, plus it dosent look like things are going good. How about making a Omaha but in today's time period. What I mean by this is to make a "Omaha" style map but with an updated setting. It would really help with the water problem and no need for a lot of fog.
