my first map

I haven't named it yet, but I've put a lot of time into it (gone through a lot of trial and error). I don't expect it to be an amazing map or anything, but let me know what you think of it. It's a bit laggy in the main upper level room. I'm starting to throw hint brushes in, but I'm not having too much luck and I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I've tied as much as I can to func_detail. Anyways here are the screens:

I kind of wish I had made everything taller, as there isn't a lot of depth, but oh well. In the room with the explosive barrels, the wall breaks upon a certain amount of damage (which is caused by the barrels), which leads to the room with the valve, screen, dead body, etc. with the iris door. The thing in the middle of the basement area is a monitor that shows most of the garage. The monitor in the valve room shows the area with the crossbow, which has vents that release stem that ignites and explodes caused by the valve. I had to use explosion sprites along with the explosions, because the explosions randomly stopped appearing on the monitor and /i couldn't get them to show up again :( The sparks also stopped appearing, so I'll have to solve that too. The explosion sprites look a lot less realistic, but it works.

Yeah, I was thinking about adding some hanging cables that go along the pipes on the ceiling. I got the fps from about 30 to about 40 in that room. Still slower than I would like, but better. Now I'm having a problem with one of the rooms. The lighting or something is really screwed up. Its looks like somewhat pixelated black and red splotches. I got a couple screenshots, but the screenshots come out too dark and don't show it. I'll probably post the .bsp in a day or two though.

How did you apply the graffiti, because i need to know, did you use decal, overlay or what?

not sure if you dont know, or you want to know his technique, but for the first, the entity 'infodecal' works great -- uses less resources than overlays.
Imagine a world with no hypothetical situations.

Thanks for the comments. I'll probably be wrapping this map up and calling it done pretty soon. There is still a lot more I could do, but I'd really like to start a map now that I know all of the basics of mapping (as I started this map knowing almost nothing.) I've got an idea that I've started on that will hopefully work out. Mapping stuff on graph paper during math is fun :P

As for decals, I've always gone with the "Apply Decal" tool, since that's what it's made for...
