I was going to try this out but I get a Iteration 9 fatal error on startup.
GL_ARB_fragment_prog not supported.

I have a radeon 9000 so thats probably the problem.Oh well its just a fillin till I get another new one.

I've been having problems getting the program to run. Every time I start it, I get a "Microbrush2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" error. Any ideas?

fray: Spark is not really like MB2, it can rather be likened to Google SketchUp. It seems though that they are focusing on an all-3D editing experience too, which is good.
Jerry60k: I am sorry... I am not yet making active use of shaders, so it could theoretically run without that, but stuff using that is planned.
cpl.punishment: That sounds odd. Did you preserve the directory structure when unzipping? Maybe the download is broken?

Also, development is very active at the moment (adding a hierarchy for the brushes and brush-based properties, which are a solid foundation for representing VMF brush entities).

I tried a fresh install, and used the default settings, but unfortunately I still can't run the program. I used the download from your site as well. If there's any information I can give you that might help, please let me know.

One question, are the sample scenes movies of some kind? For some reason, my default program to open them is Nero Showtime Essentials. Could that be the problem?

They are not movie scenes, they just happen to have the extension .mb2.dat.

How exactly does the program not start? Is there a crash? What OS and graphics card are you using? Are you trying to start it with a simple doubleclick, or have you erroneously tried to drag a scene file onto the exe?

For now, I am removing this requirement, as I am not using shaders yet. You can therefore make use of the next release :)

Windows XP, 32 bit. ATI Radeon X1050. Yes, it's an old computer. :(

The crash looks like this:

Blank window, then the error message. I actually tried opening the program both ways, first by double clicking, then by dragging a scene onto the program. After that, I tried opening one of the scene files by right clicking and selecting "open with," but unfortunately that didn't work either.

Neither open with... nor dragging a scene file directly on the exe work, because of the way the program finds its resources. There is a batch file shipped for opening with drag and drop. It *should* work though if you simply doubleclick it. Did you use the standard Windows mechanism to unzip the archive? I've read various reports on it being broken and sometimes omitting files. I personally use WinRar for zipping and unzipping.

I'm afraid I used WinRar as well.

I know this is not directly program related, however may I ask how many years of schooling it took to learn how to do things such as this? If the answer is none, then you are truly gifted as I still cannot begin to fathom how to do something like this even with a few years of schooling in the Computer Science field.

cpl. punishment: I have no idea anymore what could be the reason. I recently fixed some smaller things, but they should really not have any impact on the startup process. In such situations, my last resort is checking what a program does with ProcMon: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... 96645.aspx

Gotejjeken: IIRC; I started programming in 2001, work at a software company and study computer science since 2006.

Saving and loading of the new mb2 file format, with backwards compatibility for loading: check
Saving and loading of vmf in the C# library, preserving entities and displacements: check
Converting the runtime mb2 scene representation to and from the runtime vmf representation: hmmm...
It's 3 AM!!! Omg I am going to bed!! :D
