Damn man, you got some good programming skills. I wouldn't even want to think about the work just render the screen, let alone write it out to VMF/BSP.

There is not even a basic display for different textures yet, but an "emphasis" on all faces that have the same current display value as my pen has. Picking textures from various places really gives an impression of the texturing of the overall scene alone already. Making floors is just much more fun with cutting and a proper brush merging too, which I implemented tonight :D

You basically make a piece which is 2 units high, and add a 45° slope at one end, then just copypaste it, and along one axis, double its size each time :D

Note that this is not an x² parabola, and probably no c*x² (c <> 1) parabola either.

Regarding the arches, I'm not sure if you know this or not, but the proper way to do a arc in hammer is like this:

Image

Although hammer does must of the job for us, the "geometric" method for creating this type or arches is this:

1- Create half a square (for a 45º arc) with the desired size (in this case 128x128)

Image

2- Divide each side of the square in equal parts. The number of divisions is equal to the number of sides you want the arch to have (in this case 4)

Image

3- Connect each point to the corresponding point on the opposite side like this

4- You now have all the points that define the "arc", and you just have to create the triangles (source works better with triangles) like this

The reason I'm posting this, is that it would be great if the program could create the geometry in an engine friendly way. In the example of the arches you could just create a box, select in which axis you want the arc to be, the number of sides, and degrees, and it would create a arc like this.

That's a nice method, yeah, thought I don't see very much justification for a tool at this point, maybe later. Note though that one could easily add such stuff to an already existing file (in its xml version), or ... well. There is still a lot to do for copying around between different instances of MB2 :P
Meanwhile, in an attempt to create a quite round road curve piece tonight, I rotated some thin blocks by only a few degrees until I had a good approximation of a circle, and then placed my cuts accordingly:

I had an idea yesterday: Blueprints!
So after I managed to export things as vector graphics, I changed the perspective a little, and out came this :D
Since those are vector graphics, you can zoom in as much as you want!
Especially in the village graphic at the bottom (scroll down, there is not only the crane displayed), I think, details in the brush work are conveyed very well :D
http://shrinker.beyond-veils.de/temp09f ... 16svg.html

There is room for improvement, especially with the line styles (hey, depth cuing!), but hey, it was just a quick experiment :D

If you rightclick a graphic and show only its frame, you can even autoscroll around it in Firefox... It was a bit tricky to display them in the first place.

And it works on all HL2 maps :)

Fear not, newbies!

Now there is a feature explicitly designed for you: The grid menu! :D
(what you see is what shows up ATM after pressing the button directly above the "f", for all transformations)
