cs_ballroom (only partial layout done)

NOTE: the floating lights are these because i gotta go and have no time for a quick edit, ill be adding wooden beams up there and attaching them to a rope or something.

well, this is what i hope ill be able to call my first, "real," map. everything else ive started or made is pretty much shit :P. just a warning, this map is still in very early development and im a nub. try not to pay attention to the extremely repetitve texutres, theyre just in right now so i can see something halfway decent.

as you can tell the ballroom is enormous, im gonna add some side rooms to it like a kitchen, bathrooms and closets or something.

so thats it for now, the counter terrorists will start in the parking garage thing and the terrorists will start near that fireplace, once i finish the inside layout im gonna work on a fenced in outside area where they can wander around under parts of the building.

any suggestsions/feedback are welcome (specifically for some elements i could add in the ballroom that are both reasonable and would make for some good gameplay) :)

Why not? it has its uses, otherwise it would'nt be in the SDK.

back on topic though, This is a promising start. Just make sure you do add more detail. Some of the screenshots look very dark, Consider adding some more Lights.

what light should i use, yokai?

in game it doesnt look that dark and i have my gamma at the refault setting, so i dont know why its looking so dark (maybe due to the shit quality of mspaint jpg's).

They want you to use textured lighting. This is were you basicly give a certain texture properties of light. It SOMETIMES looks a lot better if used correctly.

light_spot and light should usually be used in concert with each other to achieve a "realistic" light. Usually I put a light_spot at a reasonable brightness for the actual "light" then I use a regular light entity for the light that shines back onto the light model and the ceiling. Usually the light entity isn't much brighter than 10 though.

Hope that helps.

I seem to make my maps that way to. I create the layout in my mind > draw it up at school > draw up in Paint .NET 2.1 > Make layout in hammer with crapy textures to get all the sizes right > add nice textures, detail, bomb sites and by zones and so forth > optmise for my crapy computer :D

Do people read these days?

If you read his 1st post and he has made lots after stating that this is only a layout and has no detail as of yet and the lights are just so you can see the layout. Next time read the topic before posting
