Hi all, first post here but ive been browsing for a while now. Some great tutorials.

Ive come to show my map. Its the first compile hence some problems with the lighting. I transfered this map from a hl1 project i never finished. Some of the level has been changed to take advantage of hl2 goodies.

Heres some pics. Please let me know what you think. As I say, all 'Light' entities will be taken out and replaced with spot_lights.

(testing this out bare with me)

While it does look nice, it still has that hl1 look about it. Also, some of the screen shots only really show one scripted sequence (if that is actually what it is). Some more content to look at would be lovely.

Its a good start though, keep it up.

Thanks for the replies, im ironing out the hl1 look. Its taking its time though. NPCS and Sounds are yet to be added.

Im only interested in design comments atm.

Well.. part of the design is about NPC's and scripted sequences. Are you sure your ready to undergo such a project?

Yes I am aware of the design aspects of npc placement etc. Ive created a small hl1 map pack a few years back.

Im perfectly capable of designing a small map pack.

The purpose of this topic was to review my current brush work, textures and lighting in the pics provided.

I like it. I think, sure the architecture could be more complicated since it's single player, but with the textural variety, it doesn't look boring to me at all. And, personally, does architecture have to be complicated? The only way, I see, that you could make a more noticable HL2 look is by clipping some corners to give rounded edges. But, besides that niggling detail, very nice start. It's nice to see a solid looking SP level in progress. Keep goin', and I shall certainly play it.

Purdy,

But, the map lacks a sense of knowing where you are... (i guess thats a way to put it)

That may a reason it looks very hl1, the 3d sky always helps in showing where the player is.

Nice start though
