This is something I kinda abandoned 2 years ago, but decided I might as well finish it..

Yeah it's a pretty crappy looking house. You had to make everything bigger otherwise you would get stuck, but it does look wierd because of that..
Since i'm using episode 2 models I'm wondering if it's possible to open this map in hl2 deathmatch or do you have to set it up in a special way? You are supposed to be able to play it in deathmatch..

and btw you can open the map in hlf2 deathmatch but if you are using ep2 models you will get a big ERROR model

That's annoying.. would be better if it just didn't show the models at all, an error message in the console about the missing models would be sufficient.
thanks btw

well with the big error model you can quickly select them and change them, other wise it would be annoying to search for the small entity box :)

ok, this doesn't look as ridiculous, even though it's not accurate. It's hard to do it any other way because right now the interior of the house is pretty much spot on, and if i move the walls it will only transfer the problem somewhere else..

When I started mapping there was tutorials about making your own house as good practice, they also informed you that you werent making it playable, and that compiling it would be usless, it was just practice. If yours is accessible then well done, and your skybox is exceptionally well done, skyboxes are something I lack in quality.

The framerates are fine actually, no problem at all. The skybox isn't even a hdr sky, I went through the list of the hdr skyboxes but no one fitted with the lighting i wanted, so i just used a regular hl2 skybox, it's not custom. I don't know shit about making skyboxes.

Then that tutorial was wrong, mapping is about making it playable in the end, even for practice you must learn to map in proper scale and create good lighting for someone playing.

Very true. I remember making a half life 2 map (actually my first for half life 2, just started fiddling with source)
Anyway made alot of tunnels and a outside and the map is still to this day just freckin crap to play because of the framerates. Which is a shame because i spent alot of time with the architecture and details.. (It probably still would be a crappy map even if you could play it but still)..

Isn't that the skybox from the helicopter boss fight in HL2, just before black mesa east?

Usually I'm skeptical of people making their own house/school/workplace (i'm guilty of it myself back in the day). This looks great though!
