The word 'verbotten' is lost on me, though I assume it means something along the lines of 'conditional', In which case, yes, you are correct. There are a few tricks you can use to make your map more FPS friendly in large areas, though I would suggest looking at some of the maps in HL2 and learning from Valve. (I don't know the official chapter titles, but the ones where you're driving around in the buggy ought to be a good starting point) Read up on Areaportals and Hints especially, or if you're feeling lazy just set up a foggy atmosphere.

Edit: Just looked at the pictures, and judging by your screens you have nothing to worry about..yet. But get into good optimization habits early. It'll save you a bunch of time later.

Forbidden, I think.

Well, you can get stable 100+ on a 32x32k box thats... well, just a flat box, so i guess so, but not if you need alot of stuff there, then its gonna look crap
Source is my way of life, if i didn't have it, i'd be tearing down walls and altering my house all the time.

i can break that down though into 512 boxes comprising a 32,000 box and then I have more displacements than my rig can handle but i can run around it fine...at 60+ fps all the time(no physboxes, my destructible house maps it drops to the teens in a 5000x5000 box) so I think I got it now....about 24,000 with 4 physbox houses is probably possible :-)

verboten: forbidden; prohibited by dictate

Anyway, I have some pretty big spaces in the L4D campaign I'm working on, but not much bigger, if any, than what valve uses. Experimentation is key here. As fry_ said, optimization is really important. Try this is you haven't seen it before... In my experience, the fog doesn't work to optimize the way you want it too. Still lots of glitches w/ things appearing beyond the Far Z Clip plane. See here and a bunch of other places... Echo51 is also right. You can get away with some pretty big stuff, but the more crap you pack into it, the nastier it's gonna be. Good luck!

Always create the illusion of open spaces, this isn't gmod and you won't be able to optimize effectively.
