Ice Castle

Postby Naticus on Thu Dec 03, 2009 3:34 am

Haven't posted in a while but here goes...

Here are some screens of a CSS Christmas map I'm working on. It is an Ice Castle with a figure 8 track around it. The track is run with func_push volumes and has 2 speeds that can be controlled by shooting targets. If you've ever played the Slideracer maps, it is a lot like that.

There are 3 bomb sites. One too many you say? Well the map is built for speed and you can get from here to there very quickly. I've included speed tubes that contain func_push volumes as well that let the player get up, down and across very quickly.

Let me know what you think. All comments are welcome. I've still got quite a bit of decorating to do but I'm hoping to complete it by this weekend.

ha cute, visually barren, but you say you're still decorating, so we'll see.

But even though you're provided an overhead shot it's hard to understand the layout, do you have any more shots for us? or a download?

Yeah.. I agree it is a little barren. More stuff is on the way to liven things up. The layout will be difficult to understand without playing it. However, I am going to wait until the map is finished to make the level available. Here is an earlier screen shot without the walls. Here you can see the lifts and how the pieces fit together. Since this shot, there has been a level removed.

I also forgot to mention that there are jumps across the middle. That inspiration came from Vivi's Mirrors Edge.

Would anyone be willing to help with a play test?

Throw it on a server I could try to find time to check it out.

Also how big is that christmas tree I see there? Also is that a model? I am also starting a Christmas/winter theme map loosely based on cs_winternights.

I'll let you know when it is ready to be tested. The tree is a model from EP2 and is about 430 units tall. The lights are env_glow and the presents are from an xmas model pack made by mrkit4423. It can be found on fpsbanana. The tree skirt is custom by me. :D

I've been able to work pretty quickly and I am not going to nit pick it to death before too much of the holiday season slips away. I'll be releasing tomorrow around 1 pm est so there will be plenty of time to play before xmas. If you would like to play, just check back for download and server links.
