For the first part of your post. I tried to recreate some portal 2 experience. The test area and then underground area. Sadly i didn't finished the map for contest.

I´ve been recommended to watch Pitch Black after playing the games and so i did. But i fell asleep after 10 minutes. The games are great indeed, they have some annoyances here and there but the visuals (specially Dark Athena) were great and combat and progression so consistent and challenging at the same time.. must. resist. playing. them. again.
