Aral Sea

Postby JLea on Mon Feb 01, 2010 11:05 am

Hello everyone,

I've decided to make a thread on what I'm currently working on at the moment. I'm creating an Aral Sea fishing village for the mod I'm running (link in signature).

The Aral Sea is a dried up lake bed in the middle of Central Asia. The area is mostly a desert now, and is very hostile to human life. Thankfully, HL2 used inspiration from this and as such I've had the joy of not having to model rusty boats :smt023

(I know the last pic has a huge hole in the roof, ignore that )

I'm mostly having trouble with making the area not look so bare, any ideas?

Looks pretty awesome so far. Only thing I can think of right off the top of my head is to perhaps add a bit more areas with sparse to medium-dense grass like in this picture: Image

awesome idea :D
dont forget that the water worked on the geography of the bottom of the sea for many years, so its not flat ;)

Basically all that's been said already. Work on shaping the terrain more. Look at the picture sightless linked. Seems pretty solid. Other than that good work.

The last pic has a hole in the roof. Do not fix that. The contrast is beautiful, you've given me ideas. :D

I think you can make it look less bare by adding more angles to it. Right now everything is snapped in 90 degrees. For example turn that boathouse 15 degrees or so and make the road more curvy.

Also, for the love of god, use a model for that railing in third pic.

Words of wisdom here. It looks way too perfectly aligned to be abandoned.
