BizzTown Version 1

Postby TheDanishMaster on Thu Feb 18, 2010 12:01 am

Hello there. I want to show you guys my skills. Also i ran out of ideas... again

Anyways BizzTown is in a place with lots of cliffs because i dont really like open areas (RP only) or massive cities.

Anyways heres some pics

Anyways tell me what you think and what I could do better. :)
Or maybe you want me to build something?

Also. Can I look at myself as a "above amateur mapper"?

Highlight to read:
This took me 4 tries to put the pictures in the right order :smt021

I really like the shadows on your last shot. What were the lightmap and vrad smooth settings you used if you don't mind me asking?

I like the map progress. The displacements could use more variation in height. The lobby interior could use some better detail, textures, and ambient lighting. Streets look great. Last shot is good. 2nd to last shot building needs more variation.

Lightmap scale is 4 and I did not use any smoothing

Okay ive got a list of whats going to be built.
  • A police station
  • Around 6-10 types of houses
  • The Docks
  • An outland
  • Im not sure about a massive city.. with tall buildings and so on (probably first in V2)
  • Lots of cliffs
  • Hopefully a working trainsystem
  • ?Weathersystem?
  • Industry buildings (I like real RP with real jobs)
  • And hopefully a complete map with further releases

Feedback is always useful and also critics because this is my first RP map

Btw its for Gmod

Sounds very ambitious, I guess having cliffs to separate each area would make it doable, also maybe use areaportals? Good luck, it looks very good I think..

Oh I am using areaportals. Then I can push the engine a little bit more

Anyways I might also add NPC's like.. birds? etc pigeons, crows and seagulls near the docks?

Just my two cents:

  • Moar displacements on the grass 'floor', or use some grass sprites to make it look more realistic. Only my creepy neighbor has perfectly flat grass like that.
  • The wall of the tunnel in your first shot looks way too thin to hold up that weight.

I'm not criticizing you, I'm just giving feedback :). Furthermore, keep up the good work!

I'll keep that in mind if I ever get back to that map. Haven't even touched it for about a year now :/ Lack of inspiration
