'clean' Suburban Street (CSS)(Updated September 2010)

Postby Esrange on Mon Mar 15, 2010 1:11 am

I don't always update the first post, so look at the more recent posts for updates

Whhooeee, i never thought i'd get to a point where I was happy to show this!
This is my attempt to make a nice, clean house; something someone might actually live in and not the usual filth-encrusted abandoned houses that seems more plentiful then mosquitoes in the south.
It's certainly WIP, and by no means is everything set in stone at this point. Infact, by the time you see these pictures, they'll probably be outdated.
I based this house off craftsmen style houses that are close by; I tried to make it look grand and old, with lots of architectural details, but at the same time something modern and lived-in.
The front porch was based off of this picture, this house is actually not too far away from where I live. This was the inspiration to make this map.
Image

So! I present to you: old_house!
(The name is temporary, don't worry)

Image

Image

I wanted to give the front a bit of a southern flare, the large patio and porch consistent with old outdoor southern living
Image

Image

As you can see, it has one bitchen' sandbox and a play house. My plan was to add a swingset, but it didn't work out...
Image

Image

Double car garage, and the doors open to!
Image

It also comes with a nice sunroom, though a bit small
Image

Image

NOTE: THE LIGHTING INSIDE IS JUST LIGHTING, IT IS NO MEANS DONE AND IS JUST THERE TO LIGHT STUFF FOR NOW

Looking at the entry way from the front porch
Image

Looking into the main room, somewhat sparse without props
Image

The door on the upper left leans to the sun room, the door on the bottom right leads into an office/library
Image

A nice little alcove for a sculpture or a phone or something
Image

Some night built-in cabinets and bookshelves, would make a good place to store some scotch or whiskey
Image

Image

Image

A fireplace is key to any old home!
Image

I spent a bit of time on the kitchen. Notice the nice granite countertops. (i sound like a real estate agent now...)
Image

Image

Image

I'm looking for a good stove and fridge model, not the dirty ones that come stock. I could leave them open so someone could put their own model in
Image

Image

The garage is a basic garage, enough room for two cars and maybe some work space
Image

So far that's most of what's done. The upstairs needs work and i'll post pictures of that later.
So, tell me what you think and anything you think that needs to be fixed!

Wooooow duuuuude, nice!

Buuut.. That angled little house in the first screenshot, how is that done exactly because I can't see that being done without turning the entire thing after building it on a 90 degree angle.

I suppose you're right, but i guess i was going for maybe a moveable playhouse, i'll probably move it away from the sandbox so it looks less cluttered.

Oh, this probably doesn't matter, but you can enter the play house if you want, there's a little coffee table in there. :D

Alright, the upstairs is mostly done.

I need to take pictures of the stairs and hall, but use your imagination for those for now.

First thing is a nice little bathroom. Excuse the generic HL2 fixtures, i'm trying to find something better.
Image
Yes, the shower door opens and there is a shower thing in there.

Next is a decent sized bedroom, big enough to defiantly fit a bed and a large desk.

Next is the 'master bedroom', nice and bright and open!

When I saw the topic and begin reading it I immediately thought: "Oh god, the housing slump is so bad that even..."

That's really cool Esrange. You should turn it in to a Left4Dead2 map.
Mappers Top Tip #548
Lighting: The arrangement, hue and intensity of one or multiple light sources.
Lightning: A dazzling discharge of electric sparks in the atmosphere, often preceding thunder.

Thanks!
Are you sure everything is ok? I can always change stuff, let me know if anything could be improved.

And as for porting it to L4D2, i dunno, i've had bad experiences with porting stuff in the past

I really like the wall paper and floor textures, for some reason they mesh well together. I also like the brushwork on the fireplace and kitchen, as well as the doorways in the foyer, entrance to the kitchen etc, the garden and patio areas are also a nice touch.

I could definetely see this as a hostage map in CS:S, keep up the good work.

Thank you!
I'm finishing up with this house, and i'm starting others for the planned neighborhood.
They probably won't be enterable, but more detail. I plan on it maybe being a street or cul-de-sac
