First try...

Postby Birkin on Sun Apr 25, 2010 5:46 pm

I've been using Hammer for some time now, but only learning the tools and how to use and manipulate the geometry. I think I can make anything geometry wise and I just need to learn more specific things such as special effects. So here is my first try at making a building based off of a favorite game of mine, if you can recognize which game you win a cookie.

Getting the size down:

Fixed the images.

1. Your images aren't showing up in the post for me, I don't know if it's just me or not.

2. Don't post your first map.

3. Ignore 2 in this case, because damn it that is seriously good for a beginner. :-D

It's nice, but the windows are too blocky - you should use a model.

For once Florence is wrong, and normally he's pretty good. I'll base my response off his.

1. Images are fine, it's pretty good actually. Your walls are a little thick but I'm impressed by your early lighting ability; you'll develop that into something epic I'm sure. Otherwise, it's too chunky; everything is a bit too...well...fat. Try slimming everything down a little and add some decreptitude; bring down some beams and so on.

2. ALWAYS post your first map, NEVER release it. Vital criticals can be made that will change your style very early on. You can obviously handle the clipping tool, lighting and so on, so your main concentration should be making your geometry more advanced and interesting. A fucking good map as a noob though, well done! :smt023

3. Haha, yeah.

4. Specifically it's either the Farm in the Cordon of Shadow Of Chernobyl or one of the pig huts nearby.

5. Likewise, it's a pleasure to have you.

That is a brilliant first map.

Pretty much what Banter said is what you should focus on currently.
