I am thinking about renaming this thread, I really need Ideas and so far I've gotten one or two good posts.
ok, adjusted the lighting. but I still need to change the default sky.

I'm going to be honest and say I really don't like the building on the right. The walls just look weird sticking out like that. I do like the combine building though. That weird machine on the front looks pretty cool.

Eyy, now I can see the combine building. :D

It still isn't right though. While I like what you are doing with the checkerboard pattern, it's not right. The combine use strong, towering lines whereas that is just breaking it up. Just line them up in collumns, and maybe extrude a few of them out into triangular wedges.

ok, how about this? I wanted to create a new style where the combine repurpose walls, while still using the old materials and rationing metal.

Those windows are, unfortunately, bloody awful. Getting proportions right purely from your imagination just isn't gonna happen unless you're super experienced. So grab a window texture or model and make your brushwork fit to it (Texture Lock Off). Plus having model based window frames looks a lot better :D

I have overlooked a vita fail in my map, as I look back it seems obvious...But what I don't get is that YOU did not spot this fail (YOU being interlopers of advanced level) a Fail that I only spotted by stroke of luck when reviewing my referance pics.

what is wrong about the center building?

There is no default size for windows you know...
Personally I think your second ones look very odd.

Your building looks like a residential building, the pic does not. Completely different window styles man ^___^
Here at least we have windows that are wider than high :)

would you prefer the windows be higher then wide or wider then high?
I am going for an old brick "bed and breakfast turned projects" style apartment,

...of course only two floors will be used...
