[L4D] One 4 Nine

Postby keved on Tue Jun 22, 2010 10:31 pm

Hi guys

After more than a year working on my campaign, One 4 Nine, I've now released it.

One 4 Nine is a five-level campaign for Left 4 Dead 1 & 2. The setting is the Nevada Desert. The U.S. Army have built a Military base around an ancient 'alien tomb', and after years of trying have finally managed to open it. The four survivors - Francis, Bill, Zoey and Louis - have heard rumors of a fortified safe zone located in the U.S Army's base, but have no knowledge of the tomb, nor what will await them upon arrival.

all your pics look really good. i have to point out that i think a bit more details in places would do well, but a sterile style kind of works too.

and your mod's website totally rocks...

Thanks guys.

joe - yeah, good call, there are a few places which would benefit from a bit more detailing here & there. Fortunately I've been keeping things optimised as I've been going along and the performance is great (even my 2.5 year old 8800GTX maxes out at 60fps), so there is scope to add more visual stuff if necessary. Also, glad you like the site, and found the code. :D

Status update: it's done. :D

I've completed the finale, and the campaign is now playable from the start of map#1 to the finale in map#4. I'm currently doing a final few playtests and then I'll be able to release a public beta.

The campaign looks good, especially the road and canyon, but your website is terrible. Lose the gimmick and make it intuitive.

Heh. :D I figured the website would be devisive and split opinions. I didn't make it with that intention of course, but to do something different to the norm.

The 'One 4 Nine' name is integral to what happens in the campaign and I couldn't use any other campaign title (I don't want to give any spoilers so won't elaborate further, but anyone who plays the campaign when it's released will totally understand why). I wanted to utilise the 1, 4 and 9 grouped blood splats as website sections, and to use L4D-style survivor graffiti to convey any info.

I'm sure a pro website designer could have done a better job of it, but I'm not a pro and as such quite happy with the end result. :)

It is artistic and it probably conveys more than we realize at this point.
