Umm...this could have been put in the 'Interlopers Official Map Pimpage' thread?

Nice displacement work. I like the textures too, sharpen up them shadows with the light map grid and see how she looks.
As the radioactive ashes descend as dark snowflakes upon the smoldering ruins of civilization, it will be man’s compelling need to create destruction and war which will subconsciously fuel his ambition to rebuild.

As stated, this should have been posted into Pimpage.

Well... that's a lot more information. I don't really understand why you didn't write all of that and THEN make a post for this mod. Perhaps you should change the name of the thread to "Doom-source" rather than canyon because a thread for this mod would be much more appropriate than a thread just for that first picture, like the others said, that would have been better posted in the map pimpage thread. Also, if this is a full source modification perhaps it would be better placed in the "Source Mods" forum on this website.

Anyways, about your idea. I haven't actually read Dune (well.... the first chapter, but that hardly counts), nor have I watched or played any of the adaptions you've mentioned. But, from your description, it sounds like Dune is a HUGE imagined world and in that case it seems to me that it wouldn't be hard to find a unique angle to build a video game plot off of. If this is true, why then would you choose to base the plot off of a sci-fi miniseries on the novel? A unique plot would likely be infinitely more interesting.

The whole water system sounds really interesting, I like the idea of taking the water from enemies. I'm wondering though, wouldn't you take damage from enemies too? Water healing wounds doesn't seem very realistic. Perhaps you should implement a second meter (Thirst?) that would steadily decrease over time but would be increased when you drink water. If the meter hits 0 you start to lose health, similar to how drowning works in many games.

Are you planning on making the keep something you can actually enter and explore? If so, good luck doing it in source.

I've read all but one of the dune books...

It took almost a year to tread through those masterpieces, and there is quite a lot of absolutely incredible things you can do with this.

Besides the butlerian jihad, which was like transformers almost, the original story is a visual masterpiece if pulled off correctly...

I love the series, DON'T RUIN IT.

You know this is a likely a 15 year old who just watched Dune for the first time "because it has that guy from Star Trec" right?

Exactly, I doubt that any of us have the ability or right even to turn it into a videogame. If you were a true Dune fan, you would know about Brian Herbert and what he's done to his father's work(and would have never even considered this in the first place). He was the man's son, and even he couldn't make the cut, and I sincerely doubt that you know any more about Dune than him. So you really think you can do it justice? Do the right thing, and abandon this now.

This would be like trying to mod "1984" with absolutely no previous experience. And for that crime I'd go unearth one of Orwell's legs and beat the person attempting it to death with said leg.

I'm seeing little in the way of capability here.

I agree with Jigsaw.

You know that doesn't look half as bad... but don't name it dune, make it something original!
