Been working on a abandoned factory lately, here are some screenies.Suggestions and feedback appriciated!

Immediate reaction is yellow lighting. It's too yellow and needs desaturating. To be honest it might work with an afternoon sky but I don't agree with the night. Then again the biggest turn off is the bleeding effect on the walls. Looking at the light model and then the bright yellow behind it. It's obvious there's no light coming from it. Instead try to match the colour of the model and use a sprite to give it that extra glow. Maybe three small ones.

Next turn off is the floor which is flat and boring. I take it that it is early so I'll leave that alone for now. Obviously put something interesting on that floor and displace it a little if that is what you're going for otherwise change to cement and add some higher edge bits around the room but make the middle lower.

Next is the support beams. They're floating? As in nothing is holding them together. A hinge here or some bolts there to make it look like they're attached together does wonders.

Actually back to lighting. The third picture. The yellow there looks alright with that model.

Fifth picture. Add some sort of trim around that hole that looks like a sort of doorway. Add the trim on the floor as well. Maybe a sort of metal.

Finally, try using custom materials instead of the old source textures?

First thing I'd recommend is using Google images or your preferred method of searching for images to find some reference images for your work. I would be really surprised if there weren't an abundance of "abandoned factory" images out there. Second, don't be afraid to make it look abandoned. Rough it up, break stuff, destroy walls, add rubble to the floor, and if you really want to make it desolate looking, add some foliage inside to make it look like nature is overtaking the building. If you do add indoor plants, make sure there is a reasonable way for them to have gotten there.

I agree that the lighting is a bit off for the level. Try lowering the brightness of the light in the first two pictures, and maybe even use a more orange tone.

Instead of yellow, try a more tannish color with a hint of yellow. The yellow you have right now is not very realistic. Also figure out a way to make the sprites lightmapped.

Good you took on most of my crits. I still think the yellow is too saturated and needs more peach. Also some red might work well.

Second I think the hole in the ceiling with the glass window could use some beams around the edge and going across to add some interesting shadows and shapes.

Thanks, ill have to say lighting isn't my best area at the moment.
Habboi, i didn't really understand what you meant with the floating beams and how to make it more realistic.

In the second picture a beam goes across under the glass but not in the third picture. That's what I mean. You could add a support beam going across the flat glass section as well.

Ah, i understand what you mean. It may be the angle, but from what i thought, it wouldnt be neccesarily on the 2nd picture, because they're to hold the slanted roof as you can see on http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/9594/hl2e220101002164848.png

Try out some really washed out blues and yellows, good for contrast down there.
