Tyranny a HL2 mod

Genre: Sci-Fi FPS
Location: Spaceport.... in space.

This is work that I have completed for my 2nd year at University. Due to my PC blowing up I wasn't able to put as much time and effort into this as I had liked, so I only spent about 2-3 weeks completing this. The Ai doesn't attack because its set to "like" me rather than "hate" the player.
All textures and models are custom (apart from the ones you'll be able to recognise from hl2!) including the 3d skybox.
I didn't manage to finish the main room to how I would've liked it to look and had quite alot of other parts to the spaceport which I havn't shown.. mainly for the reasons they were in the design/development stage. But I would say that the corridor is what I'm most happy with.

I was and still am quite new to the coding side of hammer so I didn't have much in the way of gameplay. The mod remains dead now really, I don't think I'll be returning to it as I'm working on another project atm on hammer. I'll be saying goodbye to it aswell next year when I make a start on UDK.
I'm putting these screenies up to get some feedback and to see how well I progressed in the last year or so....

Corridor

This is the corridor. I wanted to have the player start at one end, just coming out of the docking bay for example and use this as a walkway to the main room.

Main Room

This is the main room. It consists of three floors with an energy styled lift in the middle, which I never got around to finishing. The lift would take you upto the helm of the ship, and also other floors. The player would return to this room on multiple occasions because of the route I was thinking of using with its multiple entrances and exits.

I think the corridor looks good, like you tried really hard to make it look good. But it still looks outdated. I see why your giving up hammer. I think a lot of people are, hammer is really buggy and the scenes you can make with are starting to looking very dated.


btw you know what a tranny is? Its not a good thing. Maby your not american, its a man that has changed his sex to a woman and dresses up a women. So I was a bit afraid to enter this thread as you can imagine. :D

Being American has nothing to do with English literacy. Tyranny is not shorthand for "transvestite". Transvestites also arnt necessarily men nor changing their sex (that would be transexuals), they just dress up in the clothes of the opposite gender.

As for the map, it looks great! The only thing that really stood out was the fact that everything was really large in pictures 2 and 3. That may be the aesthetic of the area though. If so, it looks great!

I really like the atmosphere and style your textures/style provide, especially in the first screenshot. Keep trusting that vibe.

Thanks guys for the feedback so far. I appriciate it :D . Oh and btw I know what a tranny is... maybe you should look up the definition of Tyranny, its a totally different thing lol. It was originally going to be related to the storyline, but never fully fleshed that out either!

Yea tell me about it, I ran into so many errors! Even had some tricky leaks to try and fix.. its what happens when your smoking j's too much whilest building maps :wink:.

Thanks.. The reason why it looks like that is because I was crouching, thought it looked better from that kind of angle.. IDK just testing :).

Thank you! Yea alot of stuff in the last few years has a very dark/worn look about it.. So i'll try and stick to it in the future.

Dude everytime I see a post from you it just gets worse and worse. And dumber. Tyranny not TRANNY. Get a dictionary.

Anyways those materials are sex, but that final screenshot feels really misplaced for me. I guess it's the combine forcefield texture. You should axe that and get something else.

Ok getting this back on topic...

Your textures are AWESOME!!! Great detail and nice lighting... This definitely shows promise.

I like what I see as far as media go's. I don't like the quality of your pictures however. Disable hud and weapons by using these console commands. Sv_cheats 1, R_drawviewmodles 0 and cl_hud 0. Also try using a larger resolution and maximum graphics if you aren't already doing that. Last but not least make sure you use a good image format such as PNG or a higher quality JPEG.

Its also totally possible that my graphics card needs new drivers though. Could someone else explain if the pictures quality is low and or has JPEG artifacts?

Thanks and yeah, the main room still needed alot of work. I was aiming at doing a more sophisticated elevator preferebly one with doors which opened around the circular frame, but everything I tried to do it this way just came out wrong.. probably would've needed a model rather than brush work.

Thanks. But as I stated in the starting post, I don't think I'll be returning to it for the time being. I'm currently working on another project for my Uni work that revolves around horror and scaring the poo out of the player. Have it finished around spring next year.

My mod starts up without the huds and weapons, I just thought that I'd mess around with a little bit of impulse. But I do agree with you it would look better without. On the subject of better looking images, they look fine to me and I do have max settings on in game.. I would say its you but I don't know heh.
