Thanks for the feedback. Ya i already changed the office area around completely, looks much more run down and I am using the recessed lighting models instead of the office lights. Plus I lit them all with light_spot instead of just a light to create an afterhours look about it. As for the paint alpha, I actually already had done that as well, and if you look closely you will see it (i know it doesnt show well in these screens). But yes I still have to go back and put in the window frames etc, I'm glad to see my placement of props looks good, ive been a good outdoor mapper for a long time but have just gotten the hang of doing indoor areas. Ill upload some new screens tonight so you can see the changes I have already made. Btw I have a question about the point_spotlight entity, does it cause lag for anyone else? I put it in my sewers originally but it causes major lag when you are near it and dont want any lag in my map no matter how good it looks. Also, I want to use a fishing boat model from hl2 in my map, I found the files and extracted them, but am unsure about where everything goes. Does anyone know where all the files go according to their file extensions?

Model files go into:

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\[Username]\half-life 2\hl2\models

and their associated texture files go into:

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\[Username]\half-life 2\hl2\materials\models

I sure as hell hope that point_spotlight don't create lag - i've got quite a few in my map. We play tested it for about 2 hours the other night and there was no discernable lag.

Plus, Havana uses the effect on it's street lights. :)

Thanks, Ill check it out, maybe I tweaked something in my point_spotlight that caused the lag, ill try it again and see what it does, instead of using that I have been using a light_spot with a light but it doesnt look nearly as nice as the point_spotlight.

OMG Spartan im so proud, they grow up so fast

This is your first constructive post didnt it feel good?

I'm not really all that harsh on mappers. It's just that the last several maps that people have been showing off were so incredibly shitty they deserved to get flamed. Maps like this though that show improvement among the mapping community deserve to have good comments given to them.

No, that's what they do at vlatitude not here. Hence that site being a dead shit hole.

No not really. If Vlad ever came back and anyone wrote any freakin tuts then it would be awesome. That site was the Interlopers when Half Life first came out. You shouldn't really be bashing other people's site either Blink. It's just not right. I'd expect better from you. :smt009

I'm not randomly bashing the site, I have been a member there for over a year and the attitude to new people is unnecessary. The idea of Interlopers is to make it a comfortable for newbies and you start harping on about how people deserve to be flamed for not knowing things.

Why? People come here to get help and not abused, that's why in my opinion Vlatitude needs closer moderation, but no one seems to care.

If you wanna abuse people leave it at sites like that. That's all I have to say on this, just be nice or don't bother posting.

(And you're the only member here that acts that way)

The only flamers were Terminator (who is an asshat) and Tal' N. Tal N' has been gone for a while but recently came back to the site and even apoligized for his actions and is trying to help people out as much as possible. Zombie and Mr Greenfish have both helped me out a lot and are really nice guys. Also I have only bashed crap maps. I am so sick and fucking tired of seeing plethoras of fy maps, box maps, and shitty reincarnations by noobs of great maps that were created by great mappers long before their mapping time. I am also tired of sitting back and not saying anything about it so I decided if I see something like this then the noob will get flamed. It's the only way to learn. Saying things like oh nice map keep it up is only telling them "hey your a great mapper keep making shit for us to waiste our hd space on".

I rest my case... :smt021

Well I tried. I guess it's harder to bring people over to the dark side than I thought.

P.S. Alteast I gave the map in this thread good comments.

My only complaint other than the alpha on the beach (which was talked about) is the location of the small plant life. It all seems clustered in a line at the top of the hill while the hill itself is barren. Just looks a little odd in my opinion. Great work though.
