nobody will expect an event like this when passing by the flickering light. Unless they have seen this video.
On that note, you should simply stop posting here because you are destroying the magic.
I have long dreamed of making a scenario like this. The glitches should be much more subtle at first, enough to make the player think the design of the level is poor or slightly bugged. An NPC saying the same line in the exact same tone twice or three times in a row...or a sound delay (the player hears footsteps go by him first, then a rebel silently runs by after that (or vice versa)). Experiment with simulating frame rate drops, sound stutters, poor or impossible NPC performance (standing in the blank-slate arms-raised pose, then suddenly appearing to wake up and then looking at the player saying, "woah, i think i just blacked out") ... and of course, breaking the 4th wall (the ghost in the machine talking directly to the player via error messages, whispers, hidden textures, game_text, etc).
