Hello all, long time lurker on this website, made a new acc today.
I have also got this thread up on wold, because i like to have as much feedback as possible.

I am a prop modeler for an alien swarm mod. And because iv got some plans to start in the game industry in the future i decided to make a scene on the source engine where i only use custom textures and props to showcase my skills.

I have stumbled down on this scene concept on 3d total, inspired me to start this scene.

So i am first starting to block of the main scene first, Blocking it off with brushes and only using dev textures at the moment.

Some pics of the first stage, progress will continue further, ill post new progress pics after a couple of days. This will be a long project i will do in my spare time, beside working on the alien swarm mod.

Feedback would be great. And when the project is done, i will upload the map so you can walk threw it in hl2:ep2, and i will upload the textures and models, + the source files(smd, max, qc files) for free use. Because i want to help out beginning mods to have a basic model collection they immediatly can use.

(early garagedoor model progress, starting out with the high poly first, then i will bake the normal map and AO for the low poly version, the low poly version will only have a flat plane + the metal stars.)

(1024x1024 textures at the moment, i keep it this big, so when the scene is done and i upload the textures etc, people can decide on their own if they want to lower the resolution.)

Nice idea with the "total custom content" scene. These often pan out very nicely. I'd like to do one too but hammer and I are at loggerheads. I might see how UDK goes sometime. It's good to see another modeller trying mapping, it's a pity that they are so often mutually exclusive.

You were just about to give me a heart attack, I thought the first picture was source engine lol.

garage model AO and normal map baked, and applied on my low poly model. 2screenshots of the garage model at the first post, took it in the source sdk model viewer with normal map turned on. Textures are wip so far.

481 tris

I think i can save some tris on the metal stars. If i delete the diagonal lines.

The garage door looks nice, but you have dirtied it up without applying a base texture, the paint needs variations in it, the green bits are too blank. Even just overlaying a galvanized metal texture would give it a bit more life.

thanks for your feedback Black_Stormy, i will revisit the texture for sure, once iv got the scene blocked out.
