Hogwarts v5

:-D Introduction
Hello all,
In the past I've created some versions of Hogwarts, but always I ended up forgetting about the project.
I thought, I'd plan some things out before I'd go to work.

I am going to use some of my older pieces of work, and since I already started with the project, I consider the map as being under construction.

I've also got another topic somewhere else, and cause I dislike updating both everytime, I made a blog.

Here is a showcase of my previous Hogwarts versions, from ugly to slightly better :P

Youtube

What I am hoping to achieve:
I'd like to create parts of Hogwarts over time, with suggestions made by other people. As Hogwarts seems to diffrent in every Harry Potter movie, I'd like the community to help me with what fits best, and what parts from some versions we shouldn't add.

Main problems with the differences in each movie.
Position of the Hogwarts parts (Like the great entrance with the clocktower?
    What Hogwarts parts to add
Cause Hogwarts is kinda huge we can't have everything in it, so I'd like people to suggest some of the parts which should have priority.

Community Ideas so far
    Priority to the first Films
    Great hall is a must
    Moving staircase

Contact
When you got a question which doesn't need a quik response, just post in this topic.
If you've got a question which requires a fast response (well faster than the above XD), then post a comment on my youtube vid, and I will get an email telling me someone asked something. ;)

That big dining hall is a must. And the moving stairs. Personally I'd keep the look closer to the first films, didn't care much for the later ones.

I was thinking of putting some "scary" hallways in Hogwarts.

Anyone ever seen my ghost detector test?

I could easily remake this, as I still know how I made it.

I could use this system for the hogwart ghosts, which randomly fly around.
Some ghosts might hurt you some, others could help.
Ghosts could help by spawning in a special room when a player comes in, he might give clues in secret areas and such :P.

Not many people here are interested in Harry Potter?

The first book came out in 1997 or 1998 and I hated Harry Potter then. I still hate it now.

I like the scope of what you are attempting by recreating Hogwarts. The HP series was extremely popular so when you are finished, I'm sure your map will get a lot of attention. Have you played the EA games? Are they any good? I would think it would be important that the world you create should be better or add something to what EA has already done.

The ghost detector concept is cool but I don't really see something like that in that world. HP is more about magic and spells and less about gadgets and devices. If you could model a map the player holds that shows footsteps approaching instead of the gadget with lights, that would be much more in the spirit of Harry Potter. The gadget in the vid reminds me of something you might see in Ghostbusters (who also released game not too long ago).

Anyways, keep at it. And start texturing, lighting and detailing. It seems that this community gets the most worked up over striking scenes and less about the plain geometry.

Hi, I am currently planning to work together with someone from another forum. He made the basic exterior shape, but to be honest, that shape isn't well how to put it... big enough XD.

There is a really slow progress with this project currently, cuz I took the worst moment to start with this XD, lots of ther school projects :(.

Our main idea about the castle: To create detailed models as exterior, and put them on the basic brush structure. This will allow us to use lots of detail, while not screwing up the lighting :P. Also, models can also be used for interior if really detailed.

I made a blog, to keep everyone on both forums synced up :P. There is alot of conversation on the other forums aswell, and I'd like to keep both conversations seperated.

And I was thinking of a special stone to become brighter when a special ghost (to whom belongs the stone) is close.
