A screenshot of some WIP stuff. I am still using brush-based placeholders and placeholder-materials, experimenting with different things, but I have finally started the art-phase.

Unless you set out with the goal of making those walls bare concrete, may I suggest that you avoid the mistake of keeping close to the dev textures looks? Once you get used to the dev textures it's hard to see the map with any other textures.

Also, those walls can be all kinds of other materials, plasterboard, render, brushed steel. I think the concrete looks a bit... grungy. I get the minimalistic design, where the use of bare materials is "chic", but I think that particular texture looks a bit too industrial. You're going for "designed industrial", you have just hit industrial there. Can you share your reference?

Mirror's Edge.
I am taking large chunks of Mirror's Edge architecture, style, props, materials (but not ripping them, I am recreating everything, something direct copies, other things just influenced), and mix it with my own ideas, or things I saw somewhere else.

The walls will either be white/bright grey or orange, almost like the dev texture, just with a bit of structure on them, with a normal map and some specular and maybe a detail map, and some of the concrete, but that will be another texture later, since the concrete is now only a placeholder. It will be more washed out and whitish, too.

Especially these places obviously directly influenced certain rooms of my map (bombsite A and atrium). I had to change them quite a lot, of course, but still Mirror's Edge fans should have long ago spotted the similarities:

I can only suggest to buy and play Mirror's Edge. Otherwise you won't really understand or like the overall style of the map, or perhaps if you don't like Mirror's Edge, you won't anyway.

Great playtest!
I hope everyone enjoyed the playtest. If you have anything you want me to know, feel free to leave a comment!

A few impressions of the status quo of the map (playtest version 1.2)

Yeah I really wish I had a beta pass right now, I really, really do. Quite the fresh map for CS, makes me wish the release date was not so far away for CS:GO.

Just got this by email from ESEA:

The first 2,000 players on fully paid CSGO Open teams will receive a CSGO beta keys to prepare and compete in the league before the game's official launch August 21!

Probably not worth it if Valve time doesn't need to be re-figured on this alleged release date, but if you would already want to play CSGO open it's out there. Right now there are 85 teams with most less than 5 players.

P.S. Your most recent download link is dead.

Playtest - Saturday, 10. August 2012, 00:00 am

There will be another playtest of my map at the aforementioned date. Look up the time for your country here:

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/f ... 1T00&p1=37

I will provide a download link with all necessary files and the server info some time before the playtest, so keep an eye on this thread!

Some status quo screenshots of the map will be added tomorrow.
