Baryonic Predicament - A Half-Life 2: Ep2 singleplayer mod

Postby Miigga on Fri May 18, 2012 8:27 pm

Baryonic Predicament is a singleplayer mod for HL2:Ep2 that I am currently working on. (and been working on for three months)

The gameplay is similar to my previous maps. Lots of puzzles and combat.
You can find my previous maps here: http://www.planetphillip.com/miiggas-maps/
PlanetPhillip is a great website and y'all should be using it. Also you should play all my maps.

I could release this as a HL2:Ep2 map-pack but I have decided to release it as a mod, since it has quite a bit of gameplay in it and nobody likes map-packs.
This mod is planned to have four maps in it and over an hour worth of gameplay.

Estimated release date: Maybe in the summer 2012 or something (??)

that last screenshots should be taken off, and that area should be a secret for all players to discover.

in short, SPOILER ALERT

It's fine, he doesn't show how you got there, I hope he uses some info_landmark teleporting shenanigans.

That's some awesome brush architecture you have going on there. I really love the roof/walls on these 2:

The light coming trough the roof windows are cool but the god rays dont have the right color, and should be brighter. Overall lighting is ok'ish. Models are fine but some scenes seem boring. Could be me.

Will be playing this when I get my videocard fixed.

These are actually the ceilings I hated. I like the idea of skylights, but I don't like the look of these.

I like everything under the top horizontal beam. Above it feels/looks weird.

The roof looks really thin...

I have to agree the roof is thin, and I think the problem with the curved ceiling is that it's not a perfect curve and it's too blocky.

Too thin, yes. In the second pic. The curviness and it being too thin doesnt bother me in the second pic.

I immediatly thought: too thin! on the flat roof, but the curved roof made me think more: too blocky.

Otherwise this looks like really solid work, I like the overall brushwork, lightning and material choice.

the demo was fun to watch and i can't wait to play it.
and i know this is a demo so take these criticisms with a grain of salt.

1. there should be some ambient sounds throughout these big rooms to make them feel alive, especially after the battles.
2. the hunter ambush was strange since there was no way for it to get in there behind the wall. its like the combine sealed it up into the wall. even a hole in the ceiling or a simple hallway with a combine energy fence could make it more believable.
3. i still think the lighting is off throughout the level. the dark areas are too dark compared to all the brights areas around them...there should be more radiosity. all of the spots where the sunroof lighting hits the floor/walls should have generic light entities positioned over them to provide simulated radiosity. sunlight it much brighter than the average electrical light!!
