[CSGO] Home_sweet_home

if you look at my registrationdate on this forum you will se that i have been here for a while. neither the less i have N E V E R produced a level of any kind but i have had the interest of leveldesigning.

Now i have started my first project. The project name will go under the WIPname "home sweet home". Why?

Because i will build my house that i grow up in. A dream come true. Right? We moved away 6 years ago and I building out of my memory and an outerior image from googlemaps. My secondary goal is to learn how to do my own textures when i cant live with the current one of the walls of the house (pictures below) and i will try to do atleast one model in 3ds max.

I have a lot to work on. The lights, brushwork and anything else.

The terrorist are going to start near the house and its up to the CTs to clear it. It will most certainly be a de_ map with a bomb to plant somewhere.

The house IRL (the red one ;) )

Just looking at it you probably want to setup barriers and road blocks to enclose the map since CT forces would have the place closed in. Can't say a lot about the house interior since... well I guess you lived there and would know more of how it should look like then I would.

I guess my advice would be to just make it look as most like the house as you can and then go from there.

Jøss, svensk versjon av spelet =P Foretrekker du det over engelsk altså?

Looking good so far, but the outside and kitchen looks dull and unrealistic atm. I do however, realize that it's WIP ;)

Keep it up!
You click on Build or type
make (or some equivalent), and you are astonished, then mortified, as you realize that the whole world is being
recompiled and relinked!

Are you sure about the ceiling height? I guess you are using 128 units. 144 units might look more realistic. I doubt in a kitchen the cupboards would be right under the ceiling.

I know 128 units is the standard wall height in HL2, but for such purposes, you have to watch the proportions!

Also, I don't know if you are or not, but don't use direct measurements. Or it will feel very claustrophobic. Trust me, I tried used measurements directly from the tape measure and the rooms become small and a pain in the ass to navigate.

Dimensions in hl2 aren't the same at all as the real world.. I mean, every character in the game is about 1.6 meters in height.

The entire field of view in games is different.

CS:GO uses 90, which most ego shooters on a PC will use. HL2 uses 75 I think, so a much lower FOV.

I did older parts of de_investment, when I began, in HL2. Bad idea, since everything was HUGE once you played on a 90 FOV.

Yeah the player collision hull is wider than a person would need in real life, so things end up feeling more cramped. There's also the fact that the player is always running that makes recreations feel smaller. I've found it's best to scale up the dimensions to around 115%.

Yeah, that's the point I was trying to get across.
