cs_district7 (changed map name)

Postby Tobuk on Sun Nov 21, 2004 7:06 am

this is my first map, and my first real attempt with any kind of map editor. this is a small map called cs_district7, that i am making. it puts both teams in a small area, kind of like an aim map (but you have to buy your own guns and stuff, and there's more stuff in the way). i will eventually make this map a de_ map, and expand on the city setting to make it larger. anyway, here 2 screens of it.

thanks for the feedback, so now to explain a little about the things mentioned.

i'm going to remove some of those props for sure, i just had them thrown in there to kinda teach myself how to use hammer. also, i just wanted to get a working version quickly so my clan members could play it. as for the tree, it is not going to be on regular ground. i had just put that in before i posted here, and am now working on making a little square of dirt ground around it. (you know, like when they plant trees on a city sidewalk or something) also, the ground is still flat and crappily textured because i haven't gotten around to editing the terrain to give it some life.

oh yeah! i have a question. as you can see from the first screen, the light source, according to the skybox, is coming from the corner of the map (the corner with the 2 garages and the vending machine). however, the actual light source coming into my map is not coming from that corner. it is coming from a different wall, as you can see from this screenie.

i put my sun and my light_env to match the skybox, but the light is still coming from a different direction. any ideas on how to change that?

Try using the shadow_control entity to manipulate it.

can i just throw it anywhere in the map and change the direction? or does it have to be in the skybox or something, or what

Anywhere should suffice.

k, i put it in there, and it only changed the shadow direction of my props, which is really nice, as they now match my sun direction. however, the walls and buildings and what not still cast the wrong shadow...

Change the angle on your light_environment.
