Were those cliffs done in CS:S? Barrakid what do you mean cliffs were hard in Half Life?! :? They were easy peasy lemon squeezy. I'll have to show off some hills and cliffs from my DoD map just to show you how easy it is. However I am glad they have the displacement tool now. It makes things go much faster than vertexing each triangle.

it was hard comparing to how you do them now.. you hade to devide the solid into triangles and then vertex manipulate them, the same for complex terrain.. it wasn't something that a noob mapper could do, it toked some experience to make it look right.. now any1 can do them, wich is good since that will increase the quality of the maps, and cut the mapping time a lot

actually it depends on how good you wan't your cliffs to look.. goood looking cliffs, despite being relativilly easy to make, take some time.

I dont think it matters to be honest, no one will be sad to see the back of vertex manipulated terrain ( i will never know i used patches  )

The point is what looks good ingame. The displacment tool it easy enough to pick up, just keep practacing and you be a master in no time :D

Also its probable a good idea to show ingame shots not hammers ones.
